It does make me  :) when I see a fboab posting on this thread.

I rode my bike up a couple of (from a flatlander's perspective, amyway) fair to middling hills at the weekend.  And appear to still have a reasonably functional elbow afterwards.  That probably counts, dunnit?

Having been a little stressed for various reasons today, I rode my horse this morning.  Bareback.  In walk, trot and canter.

He loved it and I've got the biggest smile on my face!  Silly, but very fun!

This week I've commuted to work three times.
The good news is that this doubles the number of rides I've been on this year and more than doubles the distance I've ridden.

The very good news is that my wife's cousin (who is more like a sister to her as they grew up together after my wife's mother committed suicide) has made a stunning recovery from bacterial meningitis, having spent almost a month in a coma.  She's out of intensive care and into rehab, has recovered movement down one side of her body and seems to be mentally OK. It's going to be a long road to whatever degree of normality she can attain though, with twice-weekly therapy sessions.

The bad news is that she lives in the US. Even after maxing out on their insurance, she and her husband are left with a medical bill of around $35,000 and ongoing bills of more than $1,000 a week for the therapy.  He's a pastor at the local church and is "paid" by donations from members; she homeschools their five kids.  Suffice it to say, they are going to struggle.

I'm not a Christian but I have been amazed at the grace with which they have taken all of this and the support they have received from their church community. It's sobering to think how things would be here without the NHS.
Why should anybody steal a watch when they can steal a bicycle?

I cleaned my room today.  Much shredding of old documents.  Filing and binning.  Not particularly good news.
I spotted too many shoe boxes. I expected to see one containing winter cycling boots I bought years ago but have never felt the need to wear since  :(  There was another box containing a nice pair of cycling shoes that I have completely forgotten about.  :)

It was my dad's birthday today so I went town to (near) Walmer for a day visit.  Due to it taking only 10 mins to walk through that shopping centre at Stratford I got the earlier train which only goes as far as Dover.  I decided to cycle the rest of the way rather than wait for the next train (only 8 miles etc.).
All the way up past Dover Castle.
I've done this before, but with gears.  This time I was on fixed.
I got up it in one.  I was well chuffed.
(non flatlander fixie riders please keep your snorts of derision out of my earshot)

Nice socks fboab!   :D
