Sunrises and Sunsets

I'm no great photographer, but I'm quite pleased with these, taken on holiday recently.  The camera is a Canon Ixus 70, and all shots were taken in full auto mode, so no intervention from me.

Two sunsets over Roundstone, Co Galway, Ireland

Three sunrise photos of Liverpool, taken from the Belfast to Liverpool ferry at 6am last Sunday

You can get some spectacular pictures when the sun is low on the horizon.  Out of those I like the first and last most.  The first one has a nice graduation of colour and intensity, whereas the last one has lots of "texture" in the clouds.
Actually, it is rocket science.

Those Liverpool shots are great - the grey city and the glowing sky

I'm not much of a snapper either, but this prompted me to dig out a photo from one of my commutes over the winter:

Even London can look half-decent when it's still nearly dark  ;)

Small picture because it was taken on my old camera phone, but the most incredible sunrise I ever saw:

Taken from the top of ditchling beacon looking out over Sussex as the sun rose.

One I like, although would prefer it without me in it

One I found on the net and really liked.

I don't know, I reckon it'd look better without the sunset! ;)

The majority of my photos are non-digital, but here's one I've got on the computer.  The photo is of sunrise from the TAZARA train that travels from Dar-es-Salam to Zambia.  This was taken somewhere in Tanzania and I had plenty of time to watch the sunrise because the train was stationary for about 6 hrs

What on earth am I doing here on this beautiful day?! This is the only life I've got!!

A couple taken in Cornwall last December. We were lucky enough to get a couple of days with lots of sunshine and bitingly cold air.

One of the sunsets in the middle of nowhere in Mali, looking across the Niger.

This one was for Dave. Dave would disappear behind a bush with a bucket of water to wash his hair every evening for a wash and brush-up  before it got too dark. By the time he emerged, he'd missed the sunset. So I took a photo of the unset every evening so that he would eventually see what he'd missed (this was in the days of film, he had a long wait). BTW, no photoshoppery involved.

and this was our home for the duration:

and here are a couple of locals:
