I got that tap and die set as well, for when I'm brave enough to drill out the stuck screw in my front fork It looks quite good :)

I bought the Aldi effort last time round.  Last week I finally got round to using it, to tap a pair of M3 holes in the lever of a bar-end shifter.  It worked surprisingly well (the one and only time I've tapped a hole in something previously was some naff CDT project when I was 14, and that went horribly wrong[1]).

[1] Just to further dispel the myth that I actually know anything about mechanical stuff.

Collected (paid for two weeks ago) my prescription/photochromatic lenses in a MASSIVE frame.Very geeking-looking.So much so it will start a new cycle-fashion trend ;D

I chose the frames because they are rather a close fitting wrap-around effect.

Interestingly they work out cheaper than Optilabs would have been with the varifocul lenses & ph.chromo. treatment.

Hopefully your personal hygiene is a bit better than Spud's (if you've seen the film you'll know what I mean - if not, well ...) ;D

Ah, right - tiermat's piccy is of the character "Spud" from Trainspotting.

As well as those iconic specs, his most memorable scenes from the film are a) turning up for an interview high on speed and b) demonstrating what the body is capable of involuntarily after copious quantities of drugs and booze  Somehow it manages to be disgusting and hilarious at the same time.

"Trainspotting" is also one of Ewan McGregor's best movies, IMO.

( X-post with someone who doesn't exist ;D)

Turbo trainer.  Ebay bargain from a local seller (who has very kindly offered to drop it off on Monday, which saves me trying to transport it by bike).

I expect I'll have to do something clever to make it work with a 20" wheel, but how hard can that be?

Well, I've now got the trainer, and while it doesn't look too tricky to molish an appropriate extension bracket, I've just discovered a more serious flaw in the plan: the bottom of the ICE luggage rack sits almost exactly in line with the rear axle.  Grr.

We've just had a serious head-scratching session, which involved just a little bit of swearing and the experimental undoing of various bolts.

As I see it, the options seem to be:

a) take the sides of the rack off

b) rollers

Neither of these are particularly attractive, as a) involves 6 bolts and the use of a third hand, so isn't something we'd be doing with any regularity, so is only reasonable if combined with the purchase of a rack bag  and  b) is, as far as I can see, liable to result in the chain fouling the roller without further fettling to accept a small wheel (and would be useless with the other bikes).

there is no chain/roller contact when Marj's Trice is on the rollers.

... plus when you're not in the lowest gear at the back, there will be more chain clearance anyway.

...which makes an offer of swapsies for a set of rollers from a fellow forumite increasingly tempting.  Hmm.

100mm Bontrager stem from Ebay for a fiver.

I had originally bid for an Extralite stem and immediately regretted it thinking that I would never trust it; I was much relieved when I was outbid. It eventually went for around £40. And good luck to them!

The Wiggle box cometh, and a pair of Marathon +  un-coils and springs out of the box  :)

And some Haribos nom nom.

So perhaps a commute later this week after all.
Didn't fancy it in my old tyres which gave me a dual deflation at the weekend.
And perhaps the weather will improve.

As I see it, the options seem to be:

a) take the sides of the rack off

I went for this approach, on the basis that it's a solution to a short-term problem, and a rack bag should be all the luggage barakta needs until such a time as she has proper cycling legs.  The turbo is just as likely to be used on one of my two-wheelers in future, which wouldn't be a sane option with rollers[1].

Fettling for 20" wheels documented in this subject-specific thread.

[1] I got to see people defying the laws of physics on them at close range at Mildenhall, while I was remembering how to work a Betapack.  No thanks  :hand:

Come on, don't be afraid of rollers. They are a lot easier than skating.

Couldn't find a suitable rear light for Emily's new acquisition in the spares box, so popped into LBS and picked one up today.  Also some tolerably-priced NiMH cells from Maplins.
Half term's when the traffic becomes mysteriously less bad for a week.
