Begwyns, Books and Stones Take 2. 17th April 2021
« on: 09 December, 2020, 09:11:13 am »
Six months after the first version was cancelled due Covid, here it comes again.

There are few calendar events that trespass into the Begwyns and certainly none that visit the ancient monument of Arthur's Stones.  Though there are plenty that go to Hay-on-Wye on account of its numerous cafes.  Whatever the case, there are certainly none heading out of Worcestershire and the West Midlands to these destinations until now.

This is X rated events starts and finishes in Stourport-upon-Severn.  The route goes out via the Wyre Forest, through The Marches, over the Begwyns until you reach the Wye Valley at Erwood. The route then swings round to Hay, a steep climb up to Arthur's Stones then returns through the undulations of Herefordshire and the Teme Valley before reaching the Arrivee at Stourport. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/33993917

Looks a cracking route but I think your certainty is incorrect, my Monmouthshire Monster 150k has an info control at Arthur's Stones and it goes up the hard side of Pentre Lane to get there too. It's immediately followed by a climb of Snodhill Old Tay to add to the monstrousness :demon:. It may or not run this season owing to obvious issues in Wales, which may a shame as Herefordshire have kindly recently resurfaced Snodhill.

Since the sad demise of the Gladestry and Merthyr audaxes I'm not aware of any events in the south Radnor Hills though.

For anyone interested in this event, I have one spare space even though the entry system is closed to avoid an overshoot of the 30 limit.  Just drop me a line and I will give you my paypal details.

Ooo, I better correct my description for fear of mis-selling but thanks for the information.  Coming down Pentre Lane I did think, thank god I am not ascending this horror.

With the Begwyns, I know that some perms pass through them, such as the Cambrian Perms and a couple of John Hamilton's routes.
