Does that mean the whole thing is running locally?

Good grief, I need a setting that stops me from putting the letters in the wrong place that were previously correct and reusing those I've already discounted. I am a plonker.

Seems to me that strategically pick two five letter words that between them use all five vowels: alive and round for instance.  There is probably a better combination but you should hit yellows and perhaps stumble across a green or two.

I have tried a few and get the word in between 2 and 4 attempts.  I have got bored with it already.

PSA: There's a dark theme and colour blind mode in the settings.  Because they couldn't be arsed to make it accessible from the outset.

For non colour blind people (or this non colour blind person, at least), CBM is really horrible to look at. This is often true of CBM generally, not just of this game. It’s just an ugly* mix of colours.

Would it actually be possible to make a default setting that suits the needs of <everyone>?

It probably wouldn't be hard to let players pick their own colours.  You'd just have to ensure they didn't make them all the same.
