Oval chainrings

Has anybody tried oval chainrings on their ‘bent?
I’m about to order a bigger chainring for the grasshopper and was ordering about getting an oval chainring. I’ll have to specify multiple bolt holes as getting the angle of dangle will need some trial and error. But if you know why it’s a daft idea, please feel free to disabuse me of my stupidity  ;D
For every complex problem in the world, there is a simple and easily understood solution that’s wrong.

I've not tried them on a bent, but had them on an upwrong many years ago.

If you've got the space for the extra max diameter there are no downsides.

But overall, they are a daft idea. The explanations for them sound convincing, but (i) if they gave an advantage they'd be used in racing; and (b) there are two (opposing) schools of thought about which way they should be oriented.

I have yet to see any convincing explanation backed up with scientific evidence that they offer any advantage  over round ones. Their main proponents are the companies making them.
