I really liked the look of the film/cinematography; ended up watching it twice to try & get to grips with the plot...

Top Gun : Maverick

Just got back from the cinema. It was ridiculous and every bit as awesome as the first film. Dr Beardy says it wasn’t as gay as the original and the machismo was toned back some. But the in air scenes were excellent. I won’t add spoilers, but it WAS a Tom Cruise film.

Once upon a time in the West

I am not sure how I haven't seen this before, but it was outstanding. It is a long film, but it didn't seem it. The cinematography, music and story telling worked to keep me engaged.

A review said that Charles Bronson had a suitably featureless expression for the filesm. Little did they know back then that was his trademark...
It is simpler than it looks.

I was dragged along to this last night, mostly against my better judgement, I only remember the original as a bit of 80s cheese.

I really enjoyed it, complete and pleasingly stupid escapism.

I just watched the original for the first time in over 30 years.  Twitter thread so you don't have to.

Am I alone in thinking that "Mave" "Rick" looks nothing so much like the one of those car sun screens with the driver's and (usual) passenger's name on them that were popular some decades ago?  Not only that, but now we know what the character's eyes are called.

Top Gun Maverick.
I had very low expectations and it managed to break the hard deck of that. (hah!)
What an amazingly dumb movie. Sure flying scenes are cool, but that's it. It's even dumber than the original.

Les Ripoux and Ripoux contre Ripoux. 1980s sature with Philippe Noiret & Thierry l'Hermitte as corrupt cops in Montmartre.  Great fun, and seeing the quartiers populaires of Paris again was delightful.  I once lived in that area for 6 months and loved it.  Living there long-term would probably take 10 years off your life.

Ah, thought they sounded familiar but in spite of their calling them "My New Partner" & "My New Partner II" they were Le Cop and Le Cop II when aired by the BBC a million or so years ago.

The restored version of "Wings Of Desire" on a proper screen.  I thought I'd seen this ages ago, but no.

Bruno Ganz as a melancholic angel, Peter Falk as Peter Falk, Nick Cave and 2 hours of wonderful photography.    Taking that beer in was a mistake though, I was crossing my legs at the end !

There's a third one, Les Ripoux 3, set in 2003.  It's the same two leads but rather different since Noiret is long retired.  It's not as funny but quite satisfying all the same.

Bullet Train. Got some mixed reviews, but I liked it, very entertaining, Brad does an amiable turn, you learn a lot about Thomas the Tank engine and an awful lot of people die.

Best to watch the flight scenes and skip through the rest of it.  Well played, Tom Cruise.

Thor: Love and thunder.
I've enjoyed all of the MCU output up to now but this was an absolute steaming pile of fetid doggy doo. Awful in every way.

:(

I hoped they'd managed to have the same humour as previous Thor movies.

Hmm, I think I enjoyed it. Not nearly as good as Ragnorok, but that's to be expected.

A friend of mine called it a 'kiddie movie' which probably isn't far off, but it left me feeling pleasantly entertained. I should re-watch it to be sure.

Kleo.  It's a German Netflix series and very violent, but it's about a Stasi assassin so why wouldn't it be?

Fury.    Thought it was time, and yes, it was violent, but well worked and main characters developed nicely.  Filmed mainly in fields down the road, well, OK, nr Watlington.

Finally fell off the end of Twin Peaks with a resounding huh?  I suspect everyone else who's watched it has done the same.  It's all about parallel universes and stuff, innit?  But gawd there was some crappy music in it. Dougie was fun, though.

Entrapped on Netflux. Distinctly underwhelming, esp. in comparison with Trapped
