I like Deano's second one.

Iceland is chock full of waterfalls.

This one's like the Giants' Causeway turned upside down.
(http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1330/1205520201_b8adf028c3.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/bruce_mcadam/1205520201/)

This is falling into a volcanic ravine beside the old outdoor parliament.

And this is Europe's most powerful (up to 500 tonnes per second falling 44m)

Looks like High Force, Teesdale, England, to me, though no doubt Deano will be along to give us the definitive answer.

Yes, I thought High Force too when I originally saw it.

And I don't think that's too far from the other one which I'm wracking my brains as to where it is.   I think it's in Yorkshire, in the back garden of a pub you have to pay a tiny "waterfall viewing fee" to.   I recall stopping there once when driving home from the Lake District via a scenic route.

Hardraw Force, I think.

I like the effect you get with a long exposure on these sort of shots, the water almost looks like fog or clouds.  Deano's last shot appears to be like that.

Gold stars to everyone - High Force in Teesdale and Hardraw Force in Wensleydale (ish).  Sorry, I wasn't being deliberately enigmatic.

They both claim to be England's highest waterfalls - I think Hardraw Force has the edge, though.  And it's the Green Dragon pub that you have to go through to reach it, for the sum of about a quid, paid at the bar.  It would have been rude not to get a drink at the same time  ;D

Will jave to wait to get some internet access to load up some of mine. At Gullfoss in Iceland, you can get right out to the lip on an undercut cliff. In Eryri, you can get under the road bridge over the Ogwen falls where there is an older bridge contained within the arch. A magical place.
And I did enjoy the waterfalls on the Atherton Tablelands near Cairns.

The Tees has to be quite high in order to get two falls at High Force - normally it's just the left hand main channel that's flowing.

Somewhere I have some snaps of the Krimml waterfall in Austria (Europe's highest).

Jura's Atlantic coast: Swimming in a small peaty waterfall's plunge pool on the edge of Loch Tarbert.  Taken on a cheapo disposable waterproof camera which sat around in a dive bag for about three years before being developed!

That's me taking a look at where I nearly went in my canoe (as the Vermillion River, Northern Minnesota, forces its way through a small rocky gap and down several metres).

This is the deceptively tranquil scene leading up to it.  As you approach the final bend (only some 20 yards from the falls themselves) we heard a worrying roar and so got out to see what was around the bend.  Extremely good decision.

Tip.  Always go by foot to investigate why a river is making a worrying roaring sound around the corner.

A lovely trip out to Ingleton yesterday, home of much fine bridgery.... although I don't photograph those.  One has people for that, donchaknow ;)  I did, however, snap a little bit of water flowing down from the hill.

And then a chip butty in Bernie's.  Which I didn't think to photograph because it smelled too good and I was too hungry :D

Few weeks ago I saw a picture for the first time from there, where you get to see the hotels/tower block/office buildings, that have a view over the falls. That was the very first time it clicked for me that these falls are right bang in middle of a build up area. I had always thought that it was miles away from anything within a big park/forest. Looking at google map, there is a big road running right next to it, nice daily commute though.

Niagara is like Blackpool.  It even has a tower.  And amusement arcades, and naff sweet shops, and drunken yoofs (like me) and a casino, and cheap hotels, and all sorts of that stuff.

It's still an amazing, awe-inspiring wonder of nature though.  Go if you get the chance.

It isn't all just naff stuff by the way.  And it's cleaner than Blackpool.

I love that picture BP, it's a really pretty waterfall, and all the spring green is out, and the sun is shining, and the daffs are still there (although they've nearly turned over), and that bike is the prettiest thing.  I nominate this photo as The First Proper Spring Photo Of 2014.  I mean, look at the sunlight shimmering on those new spring leaves on the trees in the background!

Thank you Larry  :)  And PH  :)

It's a pothole called Alum Pot, near Selside in the Dales.  To see that view you either have to climb (using ropes) from the top of the hole, or descend through the Long Churn cave system.

Ruthie-I know Richmond falls so well that I didn't need the caption.
I never went canoeing on the Swale, but several members of the local canoe and outdoor clubs have gone over that drop in kayaks.

Here's one from our bike ride yesterday . Rutter falls , just outside Appleby.

It is and the photo only shows the wet half of the falls. The left hand side was dry and if I had included that side, I would also have captured the photography nut and his wife .
He was setting up his tripod , no doubt for one of those long open shutter shots, whilst she was snapping using a compact digi something or other.

Looks great.

Got to love RAW's ability to get detail in shadows and highlights.  Since I became addicted to Camera RAW/Lightroom I started looking for what other users have done.

Nice work.

I had nice weather last week but every time I used the camera, the sky was cloudy. Dehaze is good in LR, gives the sky a boost when lifting the shadows. The rock face on the bottom right was black, thank God for raw ;D

I started playing with manual HDR, using 3 images and saving as a 32bit TIFF.  That gives you 10 stops rather than 5 when opened in Camera Raw and almost eliminates any noise.

It allows you do find detail where even a regular RAW file wouldn't have much.

People say that "using Photoshop is cheating" but, in reality, your eyes could see the detail in the shadows of the rock. It's just that cameras can't generally resolve "reality" without a bit of help.

That pic brings back memories.
I have a few taken from almost the same spot, of us kayaking down the Etive.
That's called the Triple Falls, and the put-in in not far above.

There's a much more serious drop a little further on,which I was very happy not to mess up!

Some of the rocks were green and wet further down so I had to skip taking the shots. As you probably know some of them are tiny overhangs not even big enough for a tripod.

I don't fancy kayaking down it :o

The falls are a little distant in this shot, but it includes the landscape for context.
Click for bigness.

These are the Nevada Falls and the Vernal Falls on the Merced river in Yosemite, California.
The scale is hard to judge, but the upper falls ( the Nevada Fall ) is about 600', or about 180m. The lower fall ( the Vernal Fall ) is about half that.

The lump to the left of the Nevada Fall is called Liberty Cap, and the massive granite feature with the beak to the left is Half Dome, an arduous hike.
The picture is taken from the Panorama Trail, which leads from Glacier Point, past the top of the Illilouette Falls ( out-of-sight to the right of the picture ) round to the top of the Nevada falls.

The scale is hard to judge....
It's really hard to convey the scale.

That's the problem with Nevada. Conveying the scale.  The Grand Canyon looks like a ploughed field in photos.

The waterfall through the trees does an excellent job though.
