We met lots of those big black bee chaps in the Ardeche this summer, but I couldn't get them to pause to have their photo taken.

I did meet this chap though who posed nicely on a greenhouse.  Hugest hopper I ever did see.

Rescued this little fellow from inside the conservatory window. He had a rest then vanished into the concrete jungle. Took this with my iphone and olloclip.

My USAnian chums who know about these things tell me this is a stinkbug.  This one has a gammy left rear leg.

Hi, all--

This is a Shadow Darner that was patrolling its territory in a constructed wetland here in Virginia:

Is this a common darter?  I met it while out picking sloes last weekend.  Shot with mobile phone.

Apologies that the pics are nowhere near the usual quality of this thread.

Can anyone tell me what this is?

Found in the garden enjoying a piece of the rotten gatepost. We saw another one whilst out for our walk last night about half a mile away from this one.

Cockchafer. Harmless enough. Bimble around in the sky, bumping into windows and entangling themselves unwittingly in womans' hair.

The preferred food for adults is oak leaves, but they will also feed on conifer needles.
Certainly never seen cycling south of Sussex

Only had the 24-85mm kit lens on holiday so had to crop this; I could have filled the frame with only half a fly if I'd had the 55mm macro.

Uh-oh! We have a small town garden and, admittedly, hadn't been keeping an eye on things 'wasp-wise', but just at the weekend we were enjoying the late evening sun, with a glass of wine, and thought "Hhmm, seems to be a lot of Wasp traffic in and out of the Virginia Creeper." Well, as you can see below, they've built a home, which is quite entrenched and currently the size of a football. I'm leaving well alone until (hopefully) the've all died or cleared off by the late Autumn.

Certainly never seen cycling south of Sussex

And some from the Bat and Moth event tonight. My favourite is this one:

I can confirm that trying to focus a macro lens handheld is somewhat challenging.

Unfortunately our moth expert was rather too keen to get  them into glass tubes making photos challenging.

Have to admit I am rather liking the 105mm macro lens, though my arms are in need of training.
