ECB Director of Cricket
« on: 10 April, 2015, 07:05:36 pm »
With Paul Downton's sacking who will assume the mantle (albeit a slightly changed job)?

The newspapers are pushing Vaughan, Strauss, Fraser or Stewart .... no mentions of (Sir) Geoffrey boycott yet, or his mother with her stick of rhubarb

Looking back, the outstanding people in the recent past have been Vaughan and Strauss with Fletcher & Flower completing the captain/coach duos.

Predictions .. ?

Yes, interesting. There's a good crop of new players, so it isn't quite as grim as it sounds.
It is simpler than it looks.

Did he really expect that he had a chance after that book? I'm surprised they even entertained him!

They shouldn't have entertained him. The whole thing has gone on far too long and has been handled in an appalling manner by several different board members, team managers and 'directors of cricket' at the ECB.

If they didn't think he fitted in the team they shouldn't have picked him, not publically cancelled his contract. If they didn't think he was going to be picked after giving up an IPL contract when they told him to score runs in England (which he did) then they shouldn't have made that public either.

The whole sorry episode has gone on too long and KP should sue ECB for loss of earnings when he didn't start the IPL on poor advice from the ECB.

I don't think he should play for England, the team need young blood and to move on from a pretty dire couple of years. Play out a mauling from Australia - who are over here once again based on the greed of the ECB (I'm not going this time) and start building for the future.

Whatever any one thinks of KP I don't have any trust in the ECB or much desire to pay my hard earned money filling their coffers any more.

Oh and I didn't read his book but I agree I don't think that helped.

They shouldn't have entertained him.

Apparently they didn't, or so Colin Graves is going to be saying soon...

KP's quite something really. Love him or loathe him, he's a big character.
Curiously, I thought all this was done and dusted ages ago. And now another meeting!  ???

But this time, I wish somebody would knock on the door of the ECB, sit down with them, go through all the press releases and explain very clearly, "look everybody, just in case you hadn't realized...this is how this whole latest episode appears to Joe Public, have you got any idea how this makes you look?"
