Wiring Hub Light & Supernova The Plug iii
« on: 19 January, 2015, 12:23:31 pm »
Hi Guys,

Wonder if you can help - (tried seaching but could not find anything).  Am just building my Audax bike up.  Got a SP Dynamo hub, Exposure front light and a Supernova the plug iii USB charger.

Can anybody give any advice on wiring these in.  The plan is to use the USB charger during the day and the light at night.  my interpretation of the little guide with the Hub is that it can be perminantly wired in with the light (I would assume just disconnecting the light by pulling the plug out of the back during the day) is this the best way of doing this?

Thanks in advance

Cheers

Darren

Why disconnect the light?  Does it not have an off switch?

There isn't a switch on the Exposure dynamo light.

I'm planning on something similar, but maybe a different usb source. I fully expect to be cutting cables and including a switch in the circuit to send dynamo power where I want it.

Ah, right.  That's a bit rubbish.

In which case yes, that's probably the best way to do it, unless you feel like wiring in a switch somewhere.

Something like this would be pretty good if you only ever used one at a time.

I'd leave the USB charger wired in permanently and put the switch inline with the light, rather than switching between them with a double-throw switch.

Also, switches like that aren't usually completely waterproof, they rely on being mounted to a panel, with the rubber cover making a seal.  The now legendary 35mm film container might be a good way to mount such a thing.
