« on: 03 March, 2024, 08:16:16 pm »
Final draft of the route ha been sent out and entries closed.
250 riders. The largest to date I think.
I'll be riding to the start day before via the Harwich ferry.
Will you be about Julia? Drop by and say hello if you are!
often lost.

All being well I'll be checking your bike for the bike check.

Make sure you've got all the required reflective tape etc ...

just read it by chance. Nice one!
Currently filling up on heavy fish and chip type fare at a pub B&B in Essex prior to riding to the Harwich ferry tomorrow night and on to bike check.
It will be cool meeting the Caribbean entrant, a neighbour 900 miles to the South of me in Bermuda.  ;-)
Also looking forward to meeting you of course!. x

LOL Both are common misconceptions. It's often surprising to people how far North Bermuda is.
There is a big diaspora with the Islands in both directions to the South too so so me strong ties.
We used to do a fair bit of boating and cycling in the Bahamas (until our boat cape a cropper in Dorian) We had a couple of folding boat bikes that I likely posed about a ways back.
see you tomorrow.

Who is the Caribbean entrant?  I scanned through the list and didn't spot anyone.

Well I've since learned they are Bermudan... Which is not in the Carribbean...

I have updated the post accordingly.

Wonder how many will have reflectors on their pedals?

Probably none.

Unless there's some people on flats.

see you tomorrow.

I don't know if I will recognise you.

I'm the fat dyke with the camera, wearing all black. I'll arrive on a Brompton.

Any predictions for the winners? In the women's category I guess that Nicole van Batenburg is the favorite, but to be honest none of the other names are familiar to me.

In the men's category, we have two previous winners, Lennart Nap and Bas Vlaskamp. Next to that Bernhard Ritter, who has done well in the Three Peaks bike race. And then there is Ralf Ringenaldus: a fast audax rider who can easily maintain average speeds of over 30km/h on a 600km-brevet, even when he's riding solo. I don't know his ambitions, but I think he has potential.

In the pair's category, I'm rooting for Martin and Trudy Scholte Lubberink, but I'm pretty sure that they are aiming for a finish on Sunday evening.

Matt Seward won the Trans Atlantic Way in 2019. Be interesting to see how he gets on.

Well, if he likes headwinds and rain, then he should do fine.
