TdG was saying something more significant - he was saying that he was doing the numbers that 2 years ago would have got him into the break, and this year he could barely hang onto the peloton at the back with 70 or more riders in front of him. So it wasn't just that he had lost the advantage he had, but that in 2 years, he'd gone from being able to rip people's legs off, to having his ripped off by half the peloton, despite doing the same power. If that's true, it's proper fishy, because it's not like we've replaced most of the peloton on 2 years.
This sounds like TV's Dave Millar description of joining the pro pelican during the EPO days.

I can't help feeling that world beating drug detection systems will only encourage world beating drug detection avoidance being developed.

The dopers have been half a street ahead since the UCI banned it.

That can’t be right.  Last year TV's Super D Millar said – gasp – that he's not that keen on cheese.  And thus should be burned at the stake AS A BLASPHEMER!!1!

As confirmed by the Northern window cleaner, Wallace.
A man of principle; he let Wendolene Ramsbottom go because she didn't like cheese.

I am sure that poor french showings can be attributed to the declining quality of pheasants, red wine (and french women?) Can't be the cheese, unless it is a result of feeding cows silage (de maïs!)

Some people claim that Gone with the Wind has one of the classic finishing lines.  They are wrong.  Wallace and Wendolene at the end of "A Close Shave". A fantastic film, great action sequences, and involves sheep and cheese.  What could possibly be better?
