1001 Miglia Italia 2024
« on: 04 October, 2023, 02:26:26 pm »
I am toying with the idea of entering this as probably my last chance before the age cut-off date :D. I have a non-audaxing friend who is a very strong cyclist who may be interested. However I see in the regulations something about homologation via a ride such as LEL or PBP which he doesn't have. He is more than capable of doing an SR in 2024 but would that be enough to be able to enter? Anyone have any idea?

Thanks

Sean

Basically the entrant needs to convince the organiser that they understand the ride's demands and that they have a good chance of finishing. Previously finishing a similar brevet makes that a box-ticking exercise. Your friend might want to explain in his entry that an experienced audaxer (you) has briefed him regarding long brevets and that he is sufficiently strong to get round in time (what has he achieved recently).

1001 Miglia Italia 2024 Green Reverse, 16 - 22 August

What does Green Reverse mean? They have colour-coded routes for different editions or something?

The previous MMs went clockwise (2024 is anti-clockwise) and the jersey's and event's colour scheme was mostly red. I suspect the green is from the other main Italian colour.

Ta.

We've penciled this one in. Enjoyed ALPI4000 and I've not ridden any of this route before so should be interesting if we can make it over.

Seems recumbents and velomobiles are required to mount a flagpole to have "reflective bands larger than 30cm x 5cm" flying at at least 140cm above the ground  And helmets compulsory for everyone  :-*

Yup. Medical certificates or a road racing licence required for Italian events too.

I was considering this as an option as previously put it off in the past due to the need to get a medical certificate. I have since obtained a certificate for ALPI400 and the 6+6 ajo sardegna. Its a minor administrative annoyance and was worth the effort.

However, I don't think I fancy the pan flat 400km across the Po Valley after more than 1000km of riding. May wait for the route to be reversed again.

Yeah, for ALPI, we had to get a medical cert and submit it to what looked like some kind of national sports participation medical cert governing body (https://www.alpi4000.it/en/datahealth)

If you can't get to your GP I've used https://www.sportsmedicalcertificates.com/ in the past.

It's also valid for a year, so managed to get into both ALPI4000 and 6+6 this year on the one certificate.

I have pencilled this in for my continued attempt on the Italian grand brevet series, which I thought required four rides, but having checked https://www.audaxitalia.it/index.php?pg=grand_tour_italia, need to get all six and now more tempted by Sicily nonstop (20-23 May according to https://www.facebook.com/SiciliaNoStop/), partly because can then get the sleeper (or day train) to Palermo that goes on the ferry.

Yeah, that was handy. I used it for AMR. Annoying that it's needed though - "bro, do you know what I do for a hobby? Look at my Strava!" :D

I'm waiting to see if I get a place in Mittelgebirge Classique, but if not, I've penciled in the Sicily event.

Just realised I'm definitely out for 1001 Miglia next year as it falls on the missus's birthday and she has already bought tickets for PJ Harvey at Gunnersbury Park then.

I'm in! Entered at 23:03 last night. Only tricky bit was what to enter for the mandatory "Tax Code". I just put NA but if guess my UK NI (or US SSN) number might have been appropriate too.

Not sure when I'll travel out, tempted to take a few days and see if I can tour up over Stelvio. Coming down from Innsbruck would be awesome but complicates bike box/extra luggage arrangements

I've already booked the flight back, 3pm on the 22nd to Manchester, to keep open the crazy idea of doing B&F recovery ride. More likely I'll be there to sleep and support 😅

I looked at it last night with 2hr to go on the clock and went to bed. Probably should throw an entry in.

I'd also had Borders and Flatlands pencilled in but that looks to be full already. Oh well. (There's is a 1000k from Ghent on the same weekend..)

Ok, looks like I'm poorer and the grrl and I are riding this.

Similar logistics (London to Milan) and paperwork (medical nonsense) to the ALPI4000.

Yeah the 'Tax code' confused me. No idea what they need? Surely not employment tax code. NI seems more likely I guess. If anyone knows please let me know.
I've emailed the organisers, so if I hear back, will let you know.

I just put NA for now. If they want my tax code, they can start paying me and then I'll think about providing it. :)

The 'tax code'/codice fiscale is the Italian equivalent of a National Insurance number. No idea why they'd want it for a brevet.

This the reply I got back from the organisers 'tax code is referred to TIN - national identification number'

I seem to remember in 2010 they asked for various details that they didn't need and had various rulz (like no tri-bars) that they had copied from PBP and not checked - which they didn't enforce.  But regs may have changed since.

Just sounds like they want to ensure the person entered is the one who rides. Which they could get by just asking that you bring acceptable forms of photo ID, passport for international entrants etc.

Update, I asked for confirmation, its seems NIC or passport no. is fine. "enter n° passport  or n° health national"

Also just a sanity check before I get the credit card out.
I completed LEL2022, so all I have to do is a 600km BRM before 1st July 2024, and get a medical certificate from my doctor, is that correct?
I intend to drive there, camp or b&b the night before, and presumably I can leave my car at the starting control for the duration of the event?

I haven't looked at the rules, but I kind of hoped having done PBP last year (and a dozen 1200+ kms to date) I would be OK without specific qualifiers this year.  I *think* I'll be doing a 600km sometime before this ride this year, but this focuses the mind to actually make that happen :)

I suspect my med cert will look uncannily like my Marmotte certs from 2023 and 2018

The relevant rule is:

Quote
The 1001 Miglia Italia is open exclusively to cyclists and cycle amateurs who:
2.4) have obtained at least one of the approvals listed below:
- homologation in one of the following events: 1001MI- LEL- PBP or other patent >1200km carried out starting from the year
2021 and approved exclusively by the ACP/BRM;
- homologation, in the period between the year 2023 and within 01 July 2024, of a BRM qualification patent "Brevet Randonneurs
Mondiaux" of 600 km organized in Italy or abroad, and approved exclusively by the ACP.

My bold.

So  I read that as PBP2023 or LEL2022 are good - no other qualifying rides required.
