My retirement was just over a year ago now and I knew that I only wanted to retire form the rat race that was the criminal justice system. A year of earning less for feck all stress has been a breath of fresh air.

Debating whether or not to participate in tonight's* Midsummer Madness ride. The rain, coming down rather heavily at the moment, should stop well before the start. That said, the forecast is for solid cloud until around 09:00, well after sunrise. Rather anti-climatic for a solstice ride.

Sitting in a hotel, listening to the bass line from the school prom happening downstairs, waiting for MrsC to Skype and wondering whether wandering downstairs to the bar (not the one with the prom) would be a good idea afterwards. Staring at the rain falling outside and feeling a little annoyed I trusted yr.no's prediction of no rain over the Met Office's forecast.

I have a mudguardless bike and a gilet rather than a full waterproof, I think I'll be getting wet in an hour or so. $:-\$

Also done this afternoon ~~shown a firewall engineer just what NTP is, by beating him around the head~~ assited fix another networking issue and, just now, slopey shouldered a Tomcat issue.

Tidying, washing, putting stuff in the attic and generally sorting the house out. All jobs that have been neglected for so long, but we couldn't ignore any longer, getting into the office had become like competing in a Tough Mudder!

Fettling my prog that analyses GPXes of past Audaxes so as to plug probable average speeds into an unridden GPX, according to slope & distance, and thence to the corresponding route sheet. It's a bit too optimistic so far - I'll never average 31 kph from Brest to Guipavas in this world.

My second Ortlieb was hiding in the garage, under a pile of other panniers!

Ooh - did you spot a spare islawheel (and possibly an isla-rack) in there? I was looking for it recently with no joy, when a vague memory surfaced of being full-handed and saying "I'll pick that up another time!"...

In the meantime, the first wash load is now in the dryer (rain is intermittent so can't hang it out, plus it's too humis so it wouldn't dry anyway).

Second wash load on and I am just about to a) go and sort out a second load and b) nip into the shed whilst I am out in the garden and find a set of fix wheels (or at least the front one) so that I can build up the new project. Then I might just try to find a spare Aheadset that I know I have lying around, somewhere.

I have also paid my wages, so no wandering around in tatters this month! Me? I'm a busy buzzy bee
