The people who applied for the first show didn’t initially know they were applying to be on a TV show which reduced the freak factor by a factor of N to the power of Christopher Biggins.
I distantly knew one of the contestants in the first season (the eventual winner, Tim Campbell) and he told me about the advert in a paper he replied to, which was one offering a “Life changing adventure” which when he mentioned it I remembered having seen myself some months before.
I did like the first series, possibly helped by having a small stake in it through knowing Tim but find it increasingly bizarre as the series carry on - I can’t stand watching the tasks anymore but I do like the boardroom bit for the comedy and theatre (especially as Surallan the midget is sitting on a box bigger chair to make him look taller than his henchmoles).

Lordsugar (TMFKA Siralan) is usually pretty accurate at firing the no-hopers - last night being a perfect example - until the last five or six contestants, when it all goes hopelessly awry.
He always picks the wrong one from the final pair.

Best departure yet! Only thing that was missing was telling LudSugar that she didn't want his silly job anyway, so ner-ner-na-ner-ner.
I suppose that you could argue that the fat lad should have gone as he's the one that lost them the babyglow, on which the contest was won. But even if they'd got it, I reckon that she'd still have blown the pitch and not sold as many as the woman on the other team.
If teams are the same next week either Chris the army chap or the fat lad will probably be PM. Should be interesting whichever it is.

Part of me suspected that they would have kept her purely for entertainment value...but man, she was a lying, backstabbing bitch...and in contrast to all the others, she still came across pretty arrogant in 'You're fired' afterwards.
They still got Joanna and Stuart for entertainment values, but yeah, the characters in this are predictably getting weeded out.

Have to feel a bit sorry for Sandeesh, although she's been accused of being a bit of a slacker in the past, she didn't get it that wrong compared to the errors that some winners have made in previous episodes. To my mind, if Baggs' team had had a better leader they would probably have done worse - as it was, he was so bad that they just got on with things and ignored him as best they could.
But it would be a less entertaining program without him.

I'm hoping that Baggs stays in until the interview round. I think that he will ramp up the 'The Office' style cringe factor by several notches if he makes it that far :P
As an aside, it always amazes me how excited they get about a short trip abroad. They make out that they are, for the most part, successful business people, already raking in millions and working for some of the best companies around, yet when they are told to bring their passports they turn into a bunch of kids in a sweet shop. This is why I liked (army) Chris, when told they were off abroad all he said was "I 'ate Germans" (I say this not because I hate Germans, but because of his refusal to get over excited).
Also, as it 'appens, yesterday I was talking to someone who applied to be on the show - he made it to the final round before getting on TV. Seemed quite odd that he didn't big himself up at all, didn't boast about his achievements (he was applying as someone who was just coming out of university but who had been running his own business for some time), and seemed a perfectly reasonable and level headed chap. again, this might suggest that either they go out of their way to select a number o people based on their entertainment appeal rather than business potential, or that selective editing and egging on of candidates is used to make them seem somewhat worse than they really are (in reality, probably both).

In reality, Sirlordsugar could get rid of all but about 3 candidates within 30 seconds of them opening their mouths.
I doubt that the best (real-world) candidates would be interested in "A SIX FIGURE SALARY" and selling Amstrad Phones for Del Boy.

Lordsugar flogged the remnants of his electronics business to R*p*rt M*rd*ch a couple of years ago. Amstrad is now just a general investment vehicle for property and anything else that might make money.
I reckon they'll keep the horror that is Stuart Baggs for the interviews - remember the almost as odious Paul from a few years ago? He did his spiel to the softly-spoken but utterly vicious Claude, which can be summarised as "I can sell anything because people like me."
Claude whispered, "I don't like you" and Paul just came apart at the seams.

This week he actually came across as being a lot more mature than whiny Laura, who threw her toys out of the pram because she didn't get to land the big order, and at least he was trying with the German.

As for Laura, that bit in the car when she said 'I don't give a shit anymore about this task' and Baggs-the-Brand quipped 'well I do' demonstrates that actually he has a lot more perseverence than that moaning cow. I reckon that Stella has got his number but I think she has to show a bit more creativity.

that's what I thought initially, but I think that (assuming that they knew the fines before hand) it was actually just a little cleverer than that. It tested the contestants' ability to actually work out what the task was, and sought to identify those that could understand that it was about spending the least money rather than getting the most items.
Unfortunately, the blokes won, partly by accident, but despite his inability to get more than two items, you have to credit Jamie(?) with actually telling his lads that they had to get stuff for the lowest price possible.
But, the whole thing was worth it for the Baggs quote of the week, what was it, something like: "Even when we are shite, we are good.".

The final show is always a total anticlimax though, and not really worth watching because there's no clear winner (in monetary terms) and Lordsugar always picks the duffer of the pair anyway.

Oh deeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeearie me! Baggs so should have gone this week but LordSirSugar has kept him in for the comedy value. He's such a sucker for an 'I did it my way all on my own' story-telling session, even though it's almost guarenteed to be a load of, well, pony.
However Baggs the Brand should be FANTASTICLY cringy in the interviews.

Fired and full of shit, but I think that Baggs is still the winner of this series. The chosen candidate might get his or her £100,000, be shut away in some dark cupboard and told not to bother LordSirAl again, but if he milks it right while he's in the spot light (and I'm sure that he won't be able to help himself) Baggs will shortly be richer than even he thought (with the potential for a glorious crash and burn, Gazza-stylee).
I, for one, would buy the Baggs aftershave as giving it as a present to one or two of my past co-workers would allow comment on what I think of their skills without having to utter a bad word.

I think Baggs genuinely was despised; he's one of very few not to be invited back for the final (the others are foul-mouthed nutter Dan who was evicted in the first programme, the nasty faceache Joy who went in the second programme, weepy victim Laura, Raleigh who dropped out for personal reasons and Sandeesh-with-the-eyes).

It's a game show. Does anybody think that Baggs's ejection hasn't been scripted word-for-word for weeks?
Why do you think they let him on the show in the first place?
It isn't as scripted as you think.
It seemed to me that Siralan Lordsugar's annoyance/anger was genuine. He isn't that good an actor.

Ahh, scripted or not, that was worth the wait, especially in the light of last weeks 'decision'.
It's going to be an interesting finale. I think Chris is more creative and innovative, but has also been prone to believe too much in himself.

Excellent - I shall be watching SPOTY and then the Apprentice.

I think he has chosen Stella. I could tell from the look on his face in the preview of him saying "You're hired". I was sure his audience was female.
I could, of course, be entirely wrong.

The final is always an anti-climax - the task is set up so it's subjective and there's no actual winner - and he unerringly picks the wrong 'un.

Definitely the right choice from the two. But nothing in the final could top the come-uppance of Mr Baggs (didn't get invited back...can't imagine why!! :) ).

Haven't really followed all episodes, but I thought Chris presented very well tonight in the after show. Lord Sugar offering him the chance to knock on his door I thought was also an interesting twist. Unless he does that all the time?

He also suggested some other person who was fired earlier (forget her name) was a mistake and Chris should thus have not made the final.
Which speaks to what I said unthread: I didn't think Chris should have been in the final.

I couldn't have put a fag paper between them. I thought Lordsugar would actually have gone for Chris because Stella is far too old to be an "apprentice", but then again she had the working-class background to appeal to him.

Was she? I don't think he did give a clear direction about that. There was some waffle about whether it should be a coloured drink - but no firm decision.

I don't think the final swung it either way. Both had good and bad points including Stella's final plea for support at the end of her presentation was unprofessional and would have caused me to think twice with so little between them.

It made me cringe. I also thought that Chris had a strategy of not attacking Stella, whilst she piled into him, and he looked the better for that in the final interview
But as others have said, she was a better personal fit for Lord S.

His selection ratio for blonde females has been quite high, hasn't it?

and what a success Michelle Dewberry turned out to be; she got up the stick from fellow contestant Syed and didn't complete the year.
Curiously, she's the only winner who still has some sort of public profile; she reviews the papers weekly on $ky News.
