Anyone got hedgehogs? Yesterday am. I decided to get rid of a pile of leaves that had been against the side of the shed since last autumn. Pulled off a big clump and thought 'what is that mass of spikes' - hedgehog family, which seemed to be two adults and three young. I replaced the leaves, cut one end of a large plastic box off and put it over, followed by a load of dried laurel hedge prunings.
So how about a garden project for everyone -leave a large pile of leaves in a sheltered position, and see what it attracts..? It is true an untidy garden is good for wildlife, and I must admit to needing no encouragement not to clear up leaves, and leave that mostly to my earthworm co-workers.
