I have a new mobile that works with Google maps. It will initially triangulate using mobile phone cell information but one can elect to use the inbuilt receiver.
A few questions:
- once you have downloaded a map, is it stored as a temporary internet file or what? Do you have to download it again when you fire up the application?
- Contract has a 1GB monthly data allowance - how much data is this anyway and how quickly would I burn it with occasional use of Google maps?
I've just installed Memory Map's A-Z maps of inner and greater London, seems to integrate well with the GPS receiver and all that although it is not a very sensitive receiver near high buildings. Google can do directions, which might be handy once in a while.
Both GPS apps eat batteries, so they have no future away from the car ciggy lighter socket, in this phone anyway.
