My new 4GB MicroSD HC card...
« on: 01 May, 2010, 09:18:32 pm »
...doesn't work in my Oregon. I assume it's the HCness, which I didn't twig might be an issue.

Anyone want it? It looks as if I will have to stick with the current 2GB card which is actually OK now I know I can run multiple maps together anyway on the Oregon (I ordered the 4GB card before I realised this, and thought I might have to swap cards when travelling from Germany to Holland).

'HCness'? Unfamiliar with the Oregon, but after the last firmware updates the HCx models of the Vista and Legend will take cards of 16Gb +

HCness is that it's not just a Micro SD, it's a Micro SD HC (High Capacity?). The 2GB one in there at the mo, which works fine, is a normal Micro SD, not an HC. Otherwise they look identical (both Sandisk). Sigh. There's always some new technology which is more complicated than I realise.

No SDHC should be fine, I have a 4Gb SDHC card in my Legend HCx, and prior to that an 8Gb one that I now use in my MP3 player. Both work perfectly.

Oh and now that I look both Sandisk so the branding is unlikely to be your issue. I've used lots of Sandisk cards over the last few years and have found them to be very reliable, yours is unlikely to be a dud but it's always a possibility.

Worth formatting it in something else such as a card reader, camera or mp3 player if you have one handy, then having another go.

Or maybe there's an equivalent firmware update for the Oregon, thought it was too new to need one but again worth checking.

May be a bad batch - Kingston particularily have had problems - it will be guaranteed - shops aware and may replace without reciept...

It came to me last night in a dream... it was user error! I forgot to put it in a folder named 'Garmin'. It's working fine now.
