Interesting bike at the auction
« on: 08 March, 2011, 10:53:20 pm »
Spotted this in amongst the antique furniture:

Excellent condition. Reynolds 531 frame, Campagnolo Nuevo Record, Mafac etc. I put in a bid hoping to get lucky but I was well out - it went for £380. My research when I got home revealed this to be entirely reasonable...

I couldn't read the downtube when I was at home on my laptop.

Now I see it... :o

£380?  Bargain.
Getting there...

Sorry, dodgy phone camera pic. The maker is René Herse. Some info on the new owner of the brand's website .

Bloody hell! Has anyone looked at the prices on that website? I feel faint. And there's a 28 month waiting list.

It'd be interesting to know what the French originals went for when new.

They were the most expensive of the French constructeurs, back in the day.

If anyone wants to offer me £380 for my mediocre 531 Dawes galaxy with bent forks they are more than welcome. The bar tape is in excellent condition.

Sorry Dawes does not equal "constructeur".....let alone the Rolls Royce reputation...
The Mike Kone new ones are scary expensive as are the Alex Singers  :o (or indeed any French handbuilt steel machine)
