Sheep dog trials

Seen yesterday.

Very much a labour of love and pride in winning - top prize £50. Some competitors had come from 200 miles away.

It is simpler than it looks.

I don't live too far from Hayfield where they have trials every year and still haven't been and should do* but have been up on the Pennine way near Diggle and spent a good half hour watching a flock being moved. We really enjoyed it, it was quite beautiful to watch.
The farmer next to mum and dad is quite good at training dogs apparently and my grandad was reckoned to have been very good with his dogs but I never knew him.

Is it still televised?

*have just googled and it's not too late for this year so thanks for the reminder.

This thread brings back memories of growing up in Australia.
The ABC ( Aussie equivalent of the BBC ) used to show the English Sheep Dog trials at the same time each year.  It was fascinating for a young Aussie lad to listen to some of the accents - and gaze in wide wonder at what the feck they were saying  ;D ;D
