I once dismantled and then remantled a motorbike engine on the kitchen table, having replaced the broken valve. But that was in a student house.

When I changed the front wheel on the fixed on Sunday evening, because I'd beed dragged around the shops by Mrs G I brought both wheels inside to swap tyres and tubes over.  I actually took it into the sitting room and sat down with the family.  She glared and declared - "You better not get that on the carpet" as I showed my hands to my youngest as he wanted to release the air from the high pressure tube to frighten the dog.
