wifi hotspot advice please
« on: 04 July, 2008, 10:58:23 am »
I'm off to the US for the summer, and I am looking into where I can find (preferably free) wifi access. Why you have to pay in airports is beyond me.

I see if get myself a starbucks card (yuk!) I can get 2 hours access a day, which ain't bad, even if I have to patronise Starbucks.

Anyone got any ideas or help on this?

Apparently Kinko's give you free access (IIRC they are part of the Borders chain, I may be wrong tho').

Would also be worth installing a WiFi sniffer on your laptop so you can sniff out open APs.

Some good advice on such things comes from John Comeau's blog (second time I've suggested that today, must be a record!)

I've just come back from a trip there and I used the hotel's free network. I don't know how common this is. Also, during the day, I could pick up a free network from the company next door - Intel!
