Sports that are in the Olympics but shouldn't be

Complementary to the other thread.  Then I'll draw up a one in/one out list for Rio  :)

Dressage. You practically have to have your own castle grounds to begin with, and who ever thought that teaching a horse to mince like a 1970s sitcom homosexual was a good idea?

All the horse stuff, unless they start giving the horses the medals.

Handball, it's only there because the Nazis liked it.

Synchronised swimming.

Shooting.

FOOTBALL.

Anything that need judges to decide the winner.

Anything that relies upon a subjective judgement.
Anything that requires make-up.
Anything for which winning an Olympic gold medal isn't the pinnacle of that sport.

That'll be all the cycling out then.

The horses get rosettes and stuff and a huge fuss made of them, and a lap of honour (or two, yesterday!)

Football, and tennis, we could loose.

Also, I've found I'm much less interested in any of the team sports like basketball or handball. Team racing (like rowing) is ok though.

If I had a baby elephant, it could help me wash the car. If I had a car.

Oh yes indeed. Imagine applying that to Bolt who crosses the line first but gets silver because his lunch-box flops too far to the left *. Daft.

Rivmik gymnastic stuff.
Synch diving.
Trampolining.

And i agree with hatler:

The road race, maybe. track stuff definitely stays.

the road race makes no sense in the Olympics due to the weird team tactics - it's like Eurovision block voting! Plus countries with 1 athlete are (usually!) unfairly handicapped.

I'm happy with the events that require judges. It's not that subjective. There are very clear rules where points have to be awarded or taken away. And as long as the judges are impartial (which they generally seem to be these days) they are very consistent.

The expert pundit in the diving commentary (whoever he is) seems to be able to very accurately predict the scores the divers will get before they have been announced. Same with the gymnastics lot.

It's not like judging a piece of music where one person might love it and another might think it shit house. Either you nail a triple back somersult or you don't and points are awarded accordingly.

As for other events (notice my deliberate non-use of the word "sport"  :P ) I don't think it's really my place to say they shouldn't be in the games just because I don't have any interest in them. Plenty of other people do, so that's fine. I don't really care if they bring in tiddlywinks or wanking to be honest...

Many years ago the BBC produced a play about The Sex Olympics. I still remember the jingle.

Bloody hell! The whole thing is on Youtube!

That's a dystopian classic, and an important satire of 'reality television' written decades before the genre took off.

Handball, it's only there because the Nazis liked it.
That may be how it got in originally, but it's kept in by being very popular in lots of countries including ones the Nazis invaded.

But the football is a bit of a daft inclusion. They don't even seem to have proper national teams playing. If even the footy players don't take it seriously, what is the point? Although maybe the women's teams take it more seriously, I'm not sure.

They could make it more interesting by having male contestants flick the tiddlywinks with their erect cocks.

I'm bemused by more than half the sports in the Winter Olympics.

Pre-emptively, golf. Bloody golf's in the next Olympics!

If golf's in, we should have darts and snooker.

Yeah, they already have at least a dozen variants on Sliding Down Bunker Hill[1] On A Stolen Tea Tray.
