Is the "Port Navigation 200" running in 2014?
Could not find it on the AUK website...
Cheers,
W.
-
I understand that the org in question is hanging up his
boots Correx AUK signs.
DIY?
-
I'm sure there will be takers for this, but not this far out for a 200k.
Are you on FarceBook?
If so, then join the Audax Ecosse group, that's where such a DIY would likely be organised.
-
'tis a shame that Graeme has decided to pack away the correx signs.
I never got the chance to ride his Mull It Over 300, despite it being on my wishlist of rides to do since it was first published. If West Coast organisers are thinking of which events to run and which might attract a sizeable field, they could do no worse than dust off that event based on the reports I heard (including from a club member down here who made the journey up north just for that ride).
-
So, this is back on April 1st. Who's in? I've entered - first audax for me since 2015!
-
I just saw on fb that it's filling up, so I've just entered.
-
I'm in. I've also got the week before off work so I might be able to head up early and get some touring in first :)
-
Us.
-
Me. It coincides with a 'special' birthday. :'(
-
I'm not in, its a lovely ride. :(
-

I'm in. Really looking forward to this one, always feels like a proper adventure when you take a ferry!
-
Did this in May 2000 when Duncan Peet ran the Halflight 300 on Saturday, the Light of Lorn 100 Sunday and the 200 on Monday. The weekend was based in Oban and the 200 did Mull first. The return from Lochaline took the minor B4083 to Ardgour.
That weekend was one of the highlights of my modest audax career.

Any local accommodation recommendations? I'm half-thinking about camping but not sure that I want to lug all the gubbins that would be required to be assured of warmth at this time of year (on the train). I'm going to be staying friday, saturday and sunday nights.

I stayed here last time this was run. Recommended

I'm staying at Glencoe SYHA on the Friday & Saturday nights.
-
Thanks. Due a combination of being tight and disorganised it looks like camping it will be!
-
Have just booked into Glencoe SYHA for the Fri evening.
There's still space available ( in the dorms, anyway. Dunno about rooms ).
I've booked the Friday off work, and will drive through from Aberdeen during the day, intending to arrive late afternoon.
I will probably partake of food and Isotonic Refreshments at the Clachaig on Fri evening.
I'm sure I'll see some of you there.

Do make sure it includes a preservative. I find that about 4% alcohol usually does the trick.

That's pretty much my plan too (apart from the driving and Aberdeen bits)
-
I'm off work on the Friday, too, but I'll be training it up to Fort William and riding from there.
Fully expecting to be lanterne rouge on this - I've not done much cycling recently, and what I have done has been painfully slow! :-\

You won't be. I think I've booked that slot.

It's be like When I'm 64 all over again! ;D
-
Given your speed on the goth ride, you had a lot of fitness to lose!
-
I don't think I've been this excited about a ride before :D

Not really.
I'm not going to be there, it'll (probably) not snow and you won't be nearly killed to deth by a VW Polo.
Have a good ride .

Packing up now, and as per usual for West Coast of Scotland trips, I've packed everything from my Bikini to my wetsuit and snorkel.
I've heard the organiser is currently digging potatoes and turnips and onions out of the frozen ground to feed you all.

I'm packing too - early train up north in the morning.
I'm hoping my cunning plan of taking lots of waterproofs and no sunscreen foils the weather gods. :-\
-
Cloudy but still dry here in Oban (forecast was saying the rain would sart at 7pm). I'm hoping they are as wrong about the next couple days
-
I'm mostly packed and now worrying about what I've forgotten. Oooh I haven't put my bikini in yet.
I'll be on the 12.21 train from Glasgow (and before that Leeds - Edinburgh). Aiming for the Invercoe campsite, so do say hello if you are there.
-
The Teesside/Darlo contingent will be mustering with coffee and pies at early O'Clock in Darlo tomorrow, before the long long drive North.
-
I should be in Glencoe mid-late afternoon, depending on how long I faff about in Fort William first. Will head over to the Clachaig in the evening.
Got the route in my Etrex and my Edge and printed out the routesheet. I'll probably still get lost. ;D
-
I aim to be in the Clachaig early evening.
I'll be messing around with kit at the SYHA from late afternoon.
I'll probably stick on a YACF top over my street clothes for a while, because I won't recognise anyone.
Say hello if you see me.
(I'll be riding in an Audax Ecosse top on Saturday, if conditions allow! I only have a short-sleeve version.)
-
You should recognise me, we met at the start of last year's Auld Alliance!
-
Yes indeed, but that was 2 years ago :-)
A lost weekend, and a bit...

Good luck with this Ben. It looks a great event, but I'm nearer home riding from Tewkesbury tomorrow.
-
Organiser and chief cook are both heading up from Edinburgh this evening. Much baking has been taking place this week.
We might look into the Clachaig this evening, but first priority will be to get the hall key and set up for the morning as far as possible.
I'm planning to come over on the Corran Ferry - with riders on the 0750 if space permits - but either way I plan to leave the event HQ around 0725 in the team car to make sure everybody gets on the 0750 ferry and get a few snaps of everybody. I may also lurk with a camera between Ardgour and Lochaline.
-
My first audax in over a year and what a ride ! Thanks to Graeme and his family of helpers for putting it on.
Managed to just miss a ferry 3 times :P which in fact made it a much more social ride. I didn't doze off on the last ferry for chatting to folks
-
Yes, cracking day out.
74 starters, if I remember correctly.
Only a few heavyish showers, otherwise the sun poked through a few times during the day, and by late afternoon it was quite glorious.
Like sg, I managed to mis-time the ferries and had a bit of waiting around.
We spent about an hour and a half in the pub in Craignure, which was the only place open.
Some folks had a proper meal there, but I thought I'd wait and eat on the ferry.
That was a mistake: we got the smaller ferry which doesn't really have catering.
Got shouted at by oiks in cars at Ganavan car park.
Nice run up from Oban had me run out of energy with about 20k to go, so I dropped off the back and took my time for the last bit.
Welcome soup (with *exactly* the right amout of pepper in it ;-))and cake at the end, thanks to G and his crew for running such a great event.
-
Cracking route - enjoyed that, thanks Graeme. Never cycled around there before but it's stunning. Good cakes at the end, too (had to try them all, of course). That made up for dropping 3/4 of my Chomp bar on the road on the last leg from Oban. ;D
-
A bit late, but thank you Graeme and your helpers for your organisation and catering, a cracking day out.
-
Amazing ride! Many thanks to Graeme and team, especially for feeding my parents tea and cake when they appeared at the arrivée (...how old do you have to be before they stop embarrassing you? ;) ).
sg: mcshroom and I only just missed one ferry but we were very definitely bringing up the rear so perhaps your strategy was better!
I've put a few pics on the Book of Face.

Appetite suitably drenched - great little film, thanks

It's taken a while, but here's my story. Apologies to Chris ;D And apologies to everyone in Scotland on Chris's behalf...

Great write-up, Deano!
Kudos on the ECE.
I have a photie from the event on my work pooter's desktop slideshow.
