The Willy Warmer - 23 Jan 2010
« on: 26 December, 2009, 06:11:01 pm »
The Willy Warmer would seem to be a bit of a legend considering I've never ridden the ride, but I've heard it mentioned many a time. The 2010 Willy Warmer is pencilled in for Saturday 23rd Jan. I'm tempted by the ride, esp. if I can blag accommodation with a friend who lives close to Chalfont Saint Peter. I assume other yacf-ers will be on this ride?
What on earth am I doing here on this beautiful day?! This is the only life I've got!!

I think Manotea may offer a pyjama party the night before;

have entered but cannot ride on the day (without a substantial domestic crisis); hoping to route check a few days before...

I'm hoping to do the 100km event again this year. Not sure I'm ready for 200km as I haven't done more than commuting since the Nyctophobic.

I'm not going to bother this time, in spite of the potential chance of being able to sleep with Hummers.

I struggle with the times too much to enjoy audax, and I've put on so much weight that my 61 miler today was outside allowed times, although to be fair quite a lot of my 47 minutes stopped was answering the phone to my daughter. Had I needed t be in time for something I'd have curtailed the call, but that doesn't escape the fact that my moving average was only 10.55 mph.

If the weather is kind, I'll be there.

Not done this one before and have no idea what to expect.  Guessing a bit of Chilterns action but nothing too brutal.

I thought there was a thread for this already, but I can't find it through my post Boxing Day hangover haze.

I doubt I'll be riding the WW this year - as I have a notable birthday the next day. I suspect I will be otherwise engaged.

I'm in.  It's 5 days before my birthday.  Which isn't a round number.

Stupid Paypal making it too easy to enter.  ::-)

... Does the pyjama party explain the ride name?
It's a reference to the organising Willesden CC.

Its nice to hear my winter willy is becoming legendary.

Yes, usual Pyjama party at the Community Centre on Friday night, a no mod cons sleepover opportunity with the chance of a visit to the White Hart in Chalfont St Peter High Street and a cooked breakfast (if you get up early enough to cook it!).

Please do pm me so I know  who to expect.

Hummers

I would like to be at the pyjammer party too and this time, I promise I will not expose myself by getting up to drape my underpants over the fire exit sign.*

Wowbaggers, why not go for the 'sleeping with Hummers experience and bugger the 200k' ? I see there is no Scenic verison this year though however Mr Manotea should prepare for my entry at any moment.

BTW, is there anyone else up for a pre-ride liquid carbo loading session in the White Hart on the Friday night?

I might show up for lunch, assuming it's still at the Tutti Pole.

Yes please, indeed would you care to have a chat with Iddu regarding controller duties, in which case there may be such a thing as a free lunch!

The scenic option through the Chilterns to Pangbourne will be on the routesheet for those that want. It's all a function of weather. If it's like today it would be utterly fabtastic. Fingers crossed.

Aagh!  Mrs Z has got to the brand new 2010 calendar before me and booked the 23rd for singing Mozart's Requiem or something, so I will have the kids  :(

I shall have my revenge by booking the YACF camping weekend, the Dun Run, the Exmouth Exodus and the Easter Monday ride now.

We've entered  first time but having done a hat-trick of Anfractiouses (Anfrci?) I guess a few roads should be familiar.
Not planning to PJ-party this time.
23rd does clash with a friend's birthday and a few other things threatening to land then too, so if we bag the Poor Student and the weather is dreadful and we feel weak, there's the possible we might not make it to the start  :-[

Sounds good. I'll get my entry form sorted out in the next day or so. I've entered online.

An email on the day is fine. Its not as if I'm making up beds and running baths.... though I could break out the fire hose if there's demand!
