Some folk may know about Danny Chew, two-time RAAM winner, who has a lifetime goal of riding 1,000,000 miles and is over 3/4 of the way there. I corresponded with him a decade ago about the 300,000 Mile Club. Danny could be considered a USA-ian equivalent of teethgrinder. While I was lying in a Thai hospital, I read that he'd fallen off and done some spinal damage. Like many USA-ians, Danny doesn't have health insurance. It now looks like he'll be finishing off his million miles in a handcycle.

For clarity - The Dirty Dozen is a long-running unofficial race up 13 of the steepest Pittsburgh hills, a fixture in local cyclists' calendars. The sections between climbs are neutralised.
