CTC Annual Report and Accounts 2016
are here

They says the membership is over 67,000, I do not believe those figures.

That's a pretty serious allegation to make, Philip; as a charity isn't CUK required to have external auditors?

You have to submit accounts to the Charities Commission and they have the right to audit, but I don't think you have to have external auditors every year. This isn't very clear, but implies there are variations according to size (I'm only involved with a very small one) https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/charity-reporting-and-accounting-the-essentials-november-2016-cc15d/charity-reporting-and-accounting-the-essentials-november-2016-cc15d--2#external-scrutiny-requirements-for-charities
This is clearer:

Precisely what type of scrutiny is needed depends on the income and assets of the charity. Broadly speaking, an independent examination is needed if gross income is between £25,000 and £500,000 and an audit is needed where the gross income exceeds £500,000.

Well, assuming members are paying an average fee of £40, that's well over £2m in income a year; even if only half of them are paying, that's still way above the threshold.

If the over 67000 is correct then I suspect it included free membership to participants of the Bike revival.

As point of information under Kevin Mayne we tried the concept of introduction membership, very few renewals and hence that type of membership was redrawn.  BTW I voted for the introduction membership to see if would work, unfortunately it did not.

At that size, the rules are pretty clear there needs to be a proper external audit. I would expect them to have to tell you who did it if you ware a member, so if you genuinely think that the numbers are wrong, that should be the first thing to do after reading the annual report...

If I am incorrect  I will withdraw my remarks.

But I feel sure CTC members would like to know the number of paid up members as at the end of September 2016.

Why would they, or do you mean you would.

Most members at a guess are members for a few specific reasons, like insurance. The inner workings after that totally interesting.

Seriously just give it a rest, you are going to have a heart attack or worse at this rate.
