Yesterday, 32/36/3. Nice shout out for YACF, EG!
Today, 39/15/1
Crikey, how did Carol get on this morning? Do you think that sometimes the researchers put certain contestants through for a giggle?
I listen every day in the shop. Sometimes people say I should have a go*. EG will confirm but I'm pretty sure you need to answer a set of questions off air before the contest proper. Occasionally you get someone like Carol, today, who gets caught like a rabbit in the headlights and ends up tongue tied and unable to think. You find yourself shouting the answers in the hope that she'll get some inspiration from somewhere . . .
*NAFC! I'm pretty sure it would be embarassingly difficult.
Yep, as EG says, you need to answer questions off-air first. I've done it a couple of times but the chances of getting called back for the further two questions, then being selected, are pretty remote.
My point was that, even with some very helpful hints from Ken, she did really get nada. Her questions were a little bit 80s-heavy, but there was nothing truly obscure in there, like there sometimes is. The year was easy to get because of the Puppet On A String/Eurovision association. How could she possibly have been singing the refrain Prince Charming to herself without knowing the name of the song? She freely admitted beforehand that she normally scores low and this was the one thing she was right about! I really cannot imagine her sailing through the preselection questions... can you?
Having said that, she was a great contestant, and took it all in good grace - I loved her quip about Couldn't Get It Right being played - THAT is why she got selected.
