You were down the hill from me I think. I was on the horizon of your video

Yeah I got to the top of Chain Hill and was too pooped to ride any further!

Armed with just an iPhone rather than a proper camera, I figured that video was preferable to trying to take pictures:

I think I must have been stood behind you!  I'd cycled from Oxford and also had enough at the top of Chain Hill.

I was in a (rather fetching, I have to say) bright orange YACF jersey!

That was pretty humbling! I don't claim to be fast but I checked a couple of segments from yesterday on Strava and Alex Dowsett is about twice as fast as me up and downhill!

Trying to heard the family towards the big screen in Lewes now. We'll be somewhere round station street I expect.

Amazing stage - just watched recording of the live race.  Interesting that Dowsett made a pact that Brandle could take the stage, since Dowsett was potentially in line for the yellow jersey.

They went up the Beacon as if it was an insignificant lump.

What do you reckon about tomorrow? Wiggins could advance a few places. Kwiatkowski looks strong though.

Kwiatkowski took the Strava KOM up the Beacon. 3 mins 59. David Lopez was 4:01. I'm not telling mine, but it's got more numbers than that  :'(

My somewhat optimistic prediction for the final GC podium:

You mean the one who was about 11 ?  Near the top, on the right as the riders went up ?

That would have been little Miss hatler.

Was she spotted on the telly ?

Don't know about that but there's someone who looks a lot like you on the BBC website....

I was at Old Boat Corner (the other end from Ditchling Beacon) and, my goodness me, after the be-bah-bee-bee's and woo-woo-woo-woos of the speeding marshals, police and lead cars, it was amazing to see the speed of the riders bombing round the corner and hurtling down Coldean Lane. Couldn't recognise anyone riding.

Needless to say, by the time the riders did come round, my card on the camera was full. Excellent. I did photograph the television chaps on their motorbike.

Dah-Dah!

Okay. Spot the lone rider:

Certainly never seen cycling south of Sussex

A belated report of Friday's stage watching on the lower slopes of Chinnor Hill.

After a gentle meander to Chinnor, (all of 6 miles!) when riding through Chinnor I was asked to stop  by a lovely lady in a flouro vest to allow 200 schoolkids to cross the road.  "My pleasure" I said, as I wasn't in a hurry.

The group of roadies who then gathered behind me then proceeede to  take the mick out of my laden Carradice with stool bungied to the outside.  My temporary companions of the road stopped taking the mick when I mentioned than  I'd shortly be enjoying the use of the stool, whilst  further enjoying the flask of tea and snacks in the aforementioned saddlebag!  :)

As we rode off after the children had finished crossing the road, all 200 cheered loudly as we rode past as a thank you for stopping! ;D Accordingly lots of adults whom I'd guess are not familiar with seeing professional cyclists, then joined in thinking we were something official!

Choose a random driveway to sit in which afforded a good view of the approach to Chinnor Hill. A chap in a KotM jersey joined me with a small child on his shoulder. I'm guestimating she must have been about 4 yo.   She was delighted when the owners of the house whose drive we were occupying appeared with a selection of cowbells, and so we all proceeded to play the "what reaction do we get if we cowbell you" game to the passing motor bikes and cars prior to (and post) the race coming through. Lots of waves, beeps, thumbs ups, siren blasts, and classic Euro team car two tone horns, passed the time and added to the atmosphere.  ;D

A great atmosphere as the race came through and then a lovely gently ride home - a top couple of hours on a sunny Friday afternoon.

not so much a gravel grinder.... more of a gravel groveller

I drove a bit of the route from Stroud to Wotton-under-Edge yesterday. Surfaces to rival Paris Roubaix and a TL controlled single line working section that doesn't look likely to move any time soon on the climb through Horsley. Some tight corners on the steep descent into Wotton might catch out the unwary.
Two and a half years later, the Tour has gone but those TLs and roadworks are still there....
Riding a concrete path through the nebulous and chaotic future.

I think Stroud district council are still saving up their pennies to shore up the side of the valley.
In fact they have disappeared off Gloucestershires map of roadworks.

The Horsley bit will soon be closed for up to 14 weeks as £0.5m is spent on repairing the land slip.
It is simpler than it looks.
