Can anyone please explain why this model attracts such a premium ?

Dunno, but I noticed a Swordfish at £100.
I've dusted off all those old bottles and set them up straight

Because it is extremely rare. Only available 1958 to 1966.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

Thank you. Anyhow, there is a chap in Southampton who will absolutely delighted when he gets that in the post in a couple of days. I despatched it safely wrapped up in a biscuit tin.

Holy Nostalgia Rush, Batman.
I spent my formative years making up 1/72 scale airfix kits, mostly WWII planes, tanks and battleships. Half a crown a pop...

Sadly not. Though I did have a Tamiya Fairey Swordfish (sold for £32) and a part-completed SR.N4 Hovercraft (also £32).

Speaking of Holy Nostalgia, Batman, look what happened to fall in my basket when I popped into my localish (https://www.wonderlandmodels.com/Wonderland Models, Edinburgh) for some paints and glues...

Proper Batman, that.  None of this taking-itself-far-too-seriously gothic rubbish you get nowadays.

Yeah, before Batman went (non) West.

Slightly off-topic because it's not a plastic kit, but for my birthday last month the (proper, West) Batman movie and a boxed set of TV episodes arrived

I've been having issues with my airbrush. So I broke out ye olde worlde hairy sticks, and got some paint on Batman!

Mostly dressed in Halfords rattle can primer, but I've brush painted some dark blue on his hood / mask, and some Citadel Cadian Fleshtone on his face.

If you're Oxford based.  Boswells is closing its model kit and railway models dept. Remaining Hornby products (Humbrol, Airfix, Hornby) all 30% off.  Ends next weekend or earlier if they get shot of the stock before then.

This winter's project is now finished.  Never going to win any prizes, but I'm happy with it.

For those that are interested here be an icongraphic record of the build.

Some variations in build.  Used Tamiya flat Al for the doped canvas areas and Al rather than Ag as indicated in painting instructions. It's a brush paint job and high gloss metallic is a bugger with brushes and even when airbrushed looks out of scale at 1/72, at least it does to me. It also gave me a chance to test the scheme out for a planned build of K5083 - prototype Hurricane.

Airfix have suspended production of this kit (cashflow according to customer care bods) but if you've got an unbuilt one (A02052) and would like my build notes PM me.

That is a rather nice build, Lurker!

At the moment Batman is back in the batcave, as I've been struggling to get a decent flesh tone on his face. My last attempts either had him looking peelly wally and sickly, or a cross between David Dickinson and Donald Trump

But i have pulled the Revell 1:16 1912 Model T Ford out of my stash, and made a start to it:

Ta, but if you look closely you'll see quite a few imperfections.

Sounds like you have the makings of an interesting scratch build for a new Bat-Villain there.  Only trouble is what to call him?  Agent Orange?  Mr. Tangerine Man? El Trumpet?

I like the idea of El Trumpet; Trump dressed as an  over the top stereotypical  _Mexican_ bandido/Generallisimo with lots of bling, epaulettes and undeserved but shiny medals.  Ah, and one final detail; a smoking pistol and a hole in his right foot. :D

ETA: And his henchmen should be Mariachi style musicians with guitars that double as machine guns!  He, of course, would be carrying a gold trumpet in his left hand!

This looks rather nice. I didn't even know it had existed.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SAUNDERS-ROE-A-29-CLOUD-RAF-MARKINGS-1-72-VALOM-RARE-/361865802312?hash=item5440e1f248
Valom is new to me, www.valom.net, but they have some very interesting looking kits. Lots of types that the bigger MFRS never even consider. Quite a young company it seems.

One review of the SARO A-29 kit indicates that their kits aren't suitable for beginners.  So I can see me sticking with mainstream mfrs like Airfix/Revell/Tamiya.

Ah, the Air Atlanta Ed Force 1! Not Bruce's most successful rental, after an engine was written off by a careless ground handler. Great plane, though I never flew the 744 - my 747 experience was on the Classic 747-100/200 series.

Batman's still waiting on getting his coupon painted.

But here is my most recently finished build (as in 40 minutes ago!), a Revel 1:16 1912 Model T Ford, painted using ye olde worlde hairy sticks:

That's a nice one.   Now try and tell me, on the basis of the finish you got on this,  that an airbrush is a necessity.  :)

BTW.  How did you sort out the spots where the chromed parts came of the sprue?

Not much of an update in this thread.

But here's Batman's noggin looking a lot like Adam West! Previous attempts looked like the love child of Donald Trump and David Dickenson (of Antiques fame)!

For those interested, a base coat of vallejo model colour red beige acrylic paints for the flesh tone, then shaded using oil paints. Then a matte coat of varnish once cured.   :)
