Interesting Tandems Spotted
« on: 22 August, 2016, 08:14:36 pm »
After having a great time at the Nation Tandem Rally the week before last I thought I'd kick off a thread for pictures of great tandems. This Santana stood out to me, titanium/carbon frame, Rohloff & belts replacing both chains. Not sure about the fork mind.

That's better! Edited to show photo rather than link now that I'm home and using the desktop rather than a tablet :)

Well that didn't quite work. I'll try again once I'm home and using a real computer at the weekend, posting photos from my tablet on a crappy WiFi connection never seems to quite work how it should

Those forks look to be at a very acute angle to the perpendicular. Is that in order to reduce the wheelbase a bit? It looks as though there might be a bit of toe overlap there. Quite a long rear triangle though.

Isn't the Things' tandem a Santana? has anyone got a photo for comparison purposes?
The loss of humanity I could live with.

The Things' chief weapon is a Paketa...Paketa and Santana...Santana and Paketa.... their two weapons are Paketa and Santana...and Thorn.... Their three weapons are Paketa, Santana and Thorn...no... amongst their weapons.... amongst their weaponry...are such elements as Paketa, Santana.... I'll come in again
Getting there...

My chuckles just woke up Joth from a snooze  ;D
Amongst our weapons tandems is a carbon titanium Santana. The pictured tandem is something quite special in comparison, and I don't think I've seen a fork like that on a tandem before!

A fair few off-road tandems used double-crown downhill forks with beefier springs and heavier oil and there were a few tandem-rated suspension forks too (Hannebrink?).

I've only ever seen a Santa Cruz off road tandem having forks like that.

Here's another one that stood out to me.  Thorn Raven Twin in the same size as mine, loads of those around but check out the snazzy Rohloff shifter box and SRAM levers.

Still something I am tempted into trying.

Our tandem is somewhat like the first one with dual Carbon Drive belts and Rohloff.  Our frame is somewhat less exotic though!
Right! What's next?

Ooooh. That sounds like a daft idea.  I am in!

Koga folding tandem I spotted in The Hook of Holland a couple of years ago.

It has the same motorcycle style triple trees as the Santana

Looks Heavy too, though the fold could be really useful.

The Frame reminds me of the BikeFriday below which we met last year being ridden by a Kiwi couple.  Though it doesn't fold it will pack down into an airline friendly box.
