QR Wheel hub adapter for thru axle wheel

Are there any obvious disadvantages to using a QR wheel hub adapter to allow a thru axle wheel to be used as a QR wheel?

I’m about to order a new rear wheel for my touring bike which is quick release. My other bike is thru axle with 28 spoke wheels. As the wheel I’m looking at comes with a choice of either QR or Thru axle hub it would seem sensible to go for the option that allows the wheel to be used on either bike.

Common standard axle lengths are 135mm for QR, also 130mm for older road QR. Thru axle common standard is 142mm. Plenty of other less common standards are out there though...

Adaption of rear hubs/axles designed to fit multiple standards usually involves changing the end caps on the axle, the caps can be screw on or push fit but tend to be hub/manufacturer specific.

Fronts tend to be simpler - both types are commonly 100mm width so poking a reducer into a thru axle works.
