Rotated the start around to Hurstpierpoint, at the Scout HQ, so can offer floorspace (Fri 22:00+) & Sun nights at £3/night, or there's a Travelodge at Hickstead (~4m). Looks better for getting to than Battle as well.

TLC on the way round, with sleep control again just before Oxford (about 340Km in).

Real Life has got in the way of PBP which is a trifle annoying, but still aiming to do an SR and this looks like as fun 600, especially since I live next to one one of the Abbeys in question.
Have you a fixed location for the 340km sleep stop?

Hurrumph.That was nowhere near as apocalyptic as warned about; can't make an epic from a bit of a breeze and some drizzle.

Arrgh - budget year ends! So many "Road Closed" signs for remedial works (and one MAJOR bridge outage) - gonna have my work cut out tomorrow to assess/amend routing...It's a good job I checked

Forecast is not looking too bad for next weekend, so should be a good weekend of cycling.

I don't yet seem to have the route sheet and the GPX is dated 2018. Presumably these haven't yet gone out? Just checking in case I've missed them.

I concur ... superb event and well supported at each control, especially Coggeshall where there were perhaps more volunteers looking after us than riders!

The downpours of Saturday are now a distant memory. I was fortunate to being able to stop at home between Coggeshall and St Albans, so swapped for a pair of dry shoes and socks. The Prestwood control was littered with bits of clothing and shoes left out to dry.

I hadn't twigged how much climbing there was, so my plan to complete a fixed gear SR on a relatively benign route wasn't quite what I ended up with! I enjoyed it though, undulations are always better than pan flat.

Good to see you and thanks for your tips about fixed riding at the last control, my experience of the last 125km across the South Downs riding 38-12 yesterday has rather put me off I'm afraid, I think I may have set a record for the slowest ascent of Portsdown Hill ever

But you would have been riding a gear ratio of 85", which is ambitious for us mortals. I was riding 70", which was generally fine for everything except the steep ramps.

I do prefer single speed rather than fixed. If only we had a single speed range of Audax collectables ...

Ahhh, that's slightly embarrassing, I'm not as heroic as that!

I was riding a compact, so it was actually 34-12 rather than 38-12 (my bad). I think that comes out at around 76'' rather than 85''.

I still found it hard work going up hills. Had to walk four or five 10-20 metre ramps where the gradient got too steep but ground out the rest.

I was wondering what you were riding that had a small ring of 38. I could only think it might be the middle ring of a triple, but being stuck in the middle ring and the small sprocket at the same time would be unfortunate.
