En vacance avec Monsieur PGTips
« on: 04 September, 2008, 11:33:39 am »
I'm down in the Vercors with PGTips, but as there's a thunderstorm and fairly heavy rain going on, we're not cycling this morning, so I thought I would post a few pictures.

The mouth of the gorge that we were going to cycle up (corrected)

But before the climb there's a nice fast descent (sacrificing some height that we've already gained)

He looks happy here, because we've only gone up 6 or 700 feet in this climb

We'll be going across that big lumpy bit behind us

Up at 2500 feet, we've still got another 600 feet to go, but the camera battery ran out here.

The next day we take it easy, only about 500 feet of climbing, but first across the flat area near the river

Then back up, we took a break under a shady tree as it was so hot (that's Combe Laval that we want to go up later in the week)

Everybody takes this picture when they come here

We went out one evening to take some pictures of the viaduct that crosses the village. Because I didn't bring a right angle viewfinder, I had to get PGTips to position the camera low down, of course he claims credit for the picture

The next day was a short ride, but with about 1000 feet of climbing at 10% - this was before most of the climb, that's why he looks cheerful

A very pretty local village

A visit to the cake shop when we got back

Won't somebody think of the hamsters!

Makes a change to see one or two photos of young Master Tips when he doesn't have his face stuffed with cake...  ;D

Yesterday morning, before we hopped on the train back there was time for a quick ride

It was a fabulous morning, the clouds were just burning away

So it was off towards the mountains

After the storms the previous day, the water was running down in waterfalls all over the place

The moisture was steaming off the roads as I climbed up

I just nipped up to the top, then because I had to get back and pack and catch the TGV north, zoomed down on lovely quiet roads. The only cars that came down behind me hung back until it was safe to pass.

One final look back at the Vercors before I left

24 hours after that ride it was back to commuting on London roads complete with all the idiot cyclists.

We did, too good unfortunately. After cycling up the mountains on Sunday morning, cycling to work on Monday was not nearly as nice (even though it's flatter)   :'( :'( :'(

We're going back again next year if anybody wants to come.
