Well you can if you've ridden it.  If not, we're still on the A49 and I can't go cos I put us there.

And (as far as I can see) the only other A/B road that the B4399 connects to is the B4224. Luckily I have ridden it (the B4224) at the Mitcheldean end.  That gives us as options the A40, A449 and the A4136 to Monmouth.

Well I ride the A449 to Hay on Wye, but I'm struggling to understand the rules of this new game.  Is this a legal move?
I also ride grate swathes of the A40 on the same ride (B'ham to West Wales)
Admission.  I'm actually not that fussed about cake.

Yes, if we allow Martin's uncertainty as to whether or not he's been on the A49 ;)

I think perhaps we should so we can move on.  So now we're on the A449.

Does the B4399 cross the A449, or do you need to have ridden the B4224?

If you invoke Brookes's modification of the Polish left hand rule you can go straight to the A449

I ride the A34 nearly every day, and it crosses the A51.

Do I get a prize now?

Hmmm.

Do we have to go from that junction,or anywhere on the A48?

Anywhere on the A48, I believe. I only gave the position so people would know where we'd got to on the map :)

Superb. I bag one of my favourite roads, the A466.

We're now heading north from Chepstow, btw.

Does someone have to say Mornington Crescent when we eventually get where we're going to?

Be careful.  We can't use the same road twice, so you've got to make sure you don't end up back on the A48

OK, A4136>A40 West of Gloucester

A417.  I've ridden all of the bit from Streatley to Cirencester

That should open it up: a great swathe from the Cotswolds almost to Reading :)

...with many of the A roads attached already taken!

A438 (or the bit that's still  within Ledbury limits, anyway)

Noooo!

Back in Herefordshire ! It's like the Bromyard triangle.

OK A438>A470 at Bronllys

I've ridden pretty-much all the A470, and it takes us up as far as Llandudno if we want

OK.  We can turn back along the A458 then.

A470>A458 at err, err, not far from Dolgellau.
I've ridden it on my way back to Brum so you can use it up to Shrewsbury.

Then I'll claim the A489 from Church Stoke to Newtown.

Yes, if we allow Martin's uncertainty as to whether or not he's been on the A49 ;)

doesn't matter; the rules are I need to have ridden along a road which connects to the A49  ;)

(edited to account for Chris N's blatant cheat; does he miss a go?)

Where does that join the A458 ?
