Thoughts progress:

The Marin was locked - that's why the fuck off Squid chain and padlock are missing.   They chose to take the Marin and cut through the rest to take the Marin.   Wish I'd got round to fitting that ground anchor...

We're going to convert the roof void into a bike shed and fit a very very very good burglar alarm and surveillance system..

Much to do - too much to do.

You really don't deserve that, PB. Well, nobody does. But you two, in particular, don't. I can't think of anything remotely useful I could do to help but if you can think of summat, just ask, ok?

That's appalling. Presumably they didn't know the value of the bikes they trashed.
With some of them (e.g. MH, the Brevet) is there any chance of a repair, dropping in a new tube, rather than them being completely written off? Still expensive though.

I must admit that your post has had me sizing up the loft access door.

Oh no, that's horrible news. :(

Can't offer any useful advice, but sincerely hope that the police catch them...

More sympathy and outrage here. Does sound vindictive to me too.
Time for a bait bike with a big spring loaded spike in the seat tube.

MattH,

They certainly didn't know the value of the Airborne or MH for that matter.

Airborne (top tube), new frame:  (Thorn Audax variant probably)

Brevet (top tube), she wants a new frame:    (Thorn Audax variant probably)

Zero, no frame available now:  We're fooked unless I can find a knackered secondhand one at some point in the future.

Scott hardtail mtb (top tube), probably break and sell components

MH, top and captain's seat tubes.   Probably break for spares and offer frame and forks for a 'project'.

The loft hatch will be more like a door when we're done.  I've already contacted a local chippy I know and he's coming round to size it up.   I'll then need flooring and a pulley up there but once the job is done it will be worth it.

We will rationalise down to our tourers and our audax machines.   No point in doing anything else.

There will be a fire theft sale in the coming weeks.   Look out for bargains.

Odds on the intruders being the previously arrested smackheads?  Don't lose hope (although compo will be in the order of 50p a week if caught and convicted).  I didn't know Rugby was that bad.

Sorry to hear this. I can't believe the sheer vandalism involved, you must be heartbroken.
I don't think I'm in a position to offer any practical help, but you have my sympathy.

Just horrible stuff PB.  It's "only stuff", but still....

Almost beyond belief.

Bastards!!!!!!!! Extremely upsetting experience ,I'm sure.
Dont blame yourself about the insurance. we decided long ago not to insure all our bikes because with 3 ,sometimes  4,  cyclists in the house it was just impossible. Some are on household policy but there are limits on value etc.
A warning to others to get more security, but it does sound like a revenge visit from your previous encounter.
I don't think most bike thieves would go equipped with cutting gear.
Levering up and over type garage  doors or cutting off padlocks would be the limit for most of these types.
An alarm linked to a call centre may be your best bet, if possible. Get a couple of local alarm/security  companies to advise you. They are not all sharks .

Thanks folks.

We have just had the local hobby bobby round on his S&W.   He tells me that soco will not visit if not a house or business premises.   I have the email addresses for the three PCC candidates, the local tory vacuous waste of space and the chief constable.   Oh, and the local rag.

I will be making lots of waves.

The hobby bobby tells me that he was last round on his bike around 9p.m. so it looks like they were here after that.   Oh, and if soco could be arsed, there is possible evidence of the exit route.   How long will it last I wonder...

He tells me that soco will not visit if not a house or business premises.

That's either region specific or just bullshit, because SOCO was in attendance at the SEEKRIT BUNKER about half an hour after the local foot duty had been and gone.

Why must this sort of thing continue being an horrendous experience even after the crims have long gone?

Well, as the police don't give a shit I think that I should be able to sue the police for my losses on the basis that arrest, recovery and redress is nil if they will not even make an effort.

I must investigate this.   Walks into blind alley...

Where exactly is the workshop?  Most contents insurance covers bikes at home and doesn't require them to be insured specially.  Only if you want insurance for them when away from home, does it start to get prohibitively expensive.

I'm guessing you have a similar arrangement to the SEEKRIT BUNKER, which was slightly offsite?
