Great Lies of Our Times
« on: 14 March, 2013, 11:02:45 am »
I don't know if this thread exists but thought it would be fun to compile a list of Great Lies. These are the phrases and cliches that we see all the time which in fact everyone knows mean just the opposite of the words used.
For example:

'With respect' = 'you are talking rubbish'
'passionate about X' = we want you to think we are not ripping you off'

I think it ought to be gently steered away from political partisanship though as obviously
'We are building fair/just/free society' = whatever anyone wants it mean from absolutely any political or religious entrenched position

Natural = good

Anthrax, bubonic plague, botulism, cholera, uranium 235, just a few nasty naturals to illustrate.

In a similar vein:

Organic = Good

There's no proof that organic produce is any better than any other.

Magnet Kitchens 50% sales.

Has anyone ever seen Magnet selling kitchens at "full" price?   :-\

I thought the opposite was true.  Which isn't to say that it isn't better for the environment.

I'm still waiting for the inorganic produce aisle, thoguh...

Agree (with Fatbloke) - there is zero evidence that organic food is better for you.

How so?  You're still allowed to use pesticides - just 'natural' pesticides (guess what, they still kill)
