Bit of flashing up in the clouds yesterday, but it wasn't rumbling. 45 mins later when i got to my destination, I got soaked and had an escort of arc and spark and flash and bang for the 6 minute ride home.

If a tree falls in the woods etc.

The answer is no! One of my bonsai got blown off it's stand. No damage to the tree, but the pot completely smashed and I didn't hear a thing. Luckily it was a cheapo teracotta training pot and not a decent one, still, I hand't anticipated repotting it this year.

It has been hooching down all of last night & most of today, and the wind is getting a bit dramatic as well. Not a day to be out on the bike, or camping in an inadequate tent !

The rain yesterday was pretty much continuous heavy rain from 7am (still raining before then, but not heavy) until well after midnight. Apparently we had 104mm rain yesterday. It was pretty scary. The village is on a fairly big hill, and the water was a torrent down every road. The A5 is closed due to a landslide. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-53907943

A wet afternoon (>95% chance of heavy rain over several hours was forecast) didn't really materialise. It did rain, but not very heavily. It was supposed to stop around 8pm, but since then we've had a pretty spectacular deluge. At 8pm the automatic rain gauge had recorded 7mm. 80 minutes later, it reads 25.6mm. Between 8 and 8.30 I thought it had developed a fault it was tripping so fast. Every 0.2mm registers via a reed switch and at times it seemed to jump 0.4mm at a time. It was coming down at about 1mm per minute for a while.

The radar map gives the impression that it won't last much longer for us, but ElyDave looks as though he's had a fair bit.

Yeahbut, it's August. Tomorrow I'm going to have to go out with the bamboo pole of cleanness to check the oil level. In readiness for the heating season. Never done that in August before.

My colleague who lives in your neck of the woods felt the need to report torrential rain during our meeting at about the time you posted.

Not checked the waterbutts yet, but it was coming down fairly steadily for quite a while. Glad I got my online TT League ride in on Monday for this week

After 29 days of >=20C except for one day at 18C, yesterday reached 15C.
Last year I stopped walking across the fields earlyish in September (clayey soil - sticks like Witney to a blanket); this year it's getting that way already. OK yesterday but today is too wet.
