http://news.scotsman.com/topstories/Doctor-Who39s-farewell-to-Brigadier.6845697.jp

I hadn't realised that he'd passed on.  Since the John Pertwee Doctor was really the first Doctor I remember, and of course the long period of Tom Baker following him, the Brigadier is still stuck firmly in my memory.

Nice that they've woven it into a story, I hope he'd be pleased, I certainly will/would have been (if those tenses make any sense).
Actually, it is rocket science.

Mrs MV was punting McShroom's spoiler.

Fantastic episode. yes it was all pull-it-out-of-your-arse stuff, but that's the nature of the beast :)

I spent 43 minutes being slightly underwhelmed, trying to keep track of the timey-wimey stuff, then, BAM! Bloody brilliant.

I'm not saying any more, discussing this episode is like dancing about architecture.

massive thumbs up from the kids and the only bit I had to explain was the tribute reference to the Brigadier...which is fair enough.

In my book that made it a winner...oh and I really enjoyed it as well  ;D

The story of River Song bit was a good piece in Dr Who Confidential this week as well :)

Once again, so many little nods to other films and series.

The Brigadier was touching, but I laughed out loud at the "Pond, Ameleia Pond" quote and calling the pyramid Area 52 was brilliant

It takes blood and guts to be this cool but I'm still just a cliché.

Yes the alternative history/parallel universe thing is always ripe for ideas. The Silence stood in for the Greys there.

As soon as the "Soothsayer" looked up I was reminded of Bernard Cornwell's quote about doors in passageways.

You knew the Doctor had survived, and accepted it, all they needed to do was explain.

I especially liked that, coz it meant I got some bonus David Tennant....

One of the girls at work has pointed out that the Doctor's coat changes as well - she is predicting a second Doctor, one which has to go and is killed
This is my expectation.  The second Doctor made of that gunky stuff.

Pretty close.

I thought that was a damned good episode, although I had to watch it delayed a bit, having been out yesterday.

Well, I thought it was bloody brilliant. I've just watched it again and it's even better the second time round.

I bet it is

I'm tempted to go back and look at some of the earlier episodes that that one referenced, too.

+1 to an excellent Confidential

Yes, Confidential was good, although I would have liked to have seen an extra episode showing the full outcomes of River and The Doctor.

As my husband had got back after the show he tried to watch it on iplayer and it had crashed  ;D

I want to go back and watch them all over again from Silence In The Library - wonder if there's any significance to "silence" there that we missed first time round?

Of course they may have been there throughout the episode, but you can't remember seeing them?

I just came across these Air Swimmers (I tried to put a link to the video, but the forum software insists on converting this to an embedded YouTube video), and they are so out of last years Christmas Special! (A Christmas Carol).

I quite enjoyed that, as season finales go. Normally they've been getting bigger and sillier and requiring more and more use of a magic-macguffin-shark-repellant-bat-spray, but that episode was comparatively elegant. It wasn't perfect by a long shot, but my main complaint is that River Song seemed to be wearing fabulous shoes which didn't get the camera time they deserved! >:(
