You lot do realise the actor playing the Doctor doesn't write the scripts, yeah?

However they do have a say...... Stephen Moffat has made it quite clear on a number of occasions that the actors have improvised and it has been included, or script suggestions have been followed.

I would watch Dr. Who if he was playing the Malcolm Tucker character. What a hoot that would be.

Uncle Rory  ???

That was the first role I properly remember him in. Brilliant. I looked it up on imdb to remind myself when it was on - 1996! That makes me feel old.

While I was on imdb, I also noticed the billing of his character in World War Z...

I thought I was being really clever to spot that, but of coures it was already all over Twitter by the time I noticed it.

They showed the first 4 episodes last night. Since I hadn't seen them for 50 years I wasn't surprised that I couldn't remember them. The thing that really dated them was the portrayal of the female characters. Much screaming, crying and falling over when running. Carole Ann Ford (Doctor's granddaughter) was particularly painful to my poor old ears.
There's no vibrations, but wait.

Worryingly, I'm already in Who overload.

I've avoided the many shows on BBC3 and on the radio, but we watched the 'origins' docco on BBC2 last night. Quite interesting; nice stuff about D.N.A., hilarious footage of actors dressed as giant rats etc etc ...

Turned on 7Extra just now ... YET ANOTHER "how Dr Who started" type program (3 hours). I retuned instantly

Not sure I can face tonight's show, may have to save it for later in the week ...

The Beeb do seem to be rather over milking the subject, as a convenient excuse for lots of cheap documentaries made up of reams of old footage, and just repeating old episodes (but recent old ones, not the more unusual really old ones).

Still, I haven't watched a lot of that, so don't feel that I've been overloaded.  Just over eight hours to go ...
Actually, it is rocket science.

We watched Mark Gatiss' An Adventure in Space and Time last night, which tells the story of how Doctor Who came about. It was excellent and rather moving (one moment in particular made me 'leak from the eyes' a little, towards the end).

From Sickipedia:

It's the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who today, in that time the Dr has made friends, fought in fights and even experienced a bit of romance.

Which is more than the viewers can say they have done.

Some of the "new" Dr Who has been a bit and hit and miss (Pertwee/Baker was my era) but that was a blast.

Did David Icke have a hand with the script, with the Queen being a shape-shifting alien reptile? And when she  said she was the Queen of England the (Scottish) Dr said "I'm not English" I wondered how Steven Moffat will vote next year...  ;)

May have spent too much time watching TV, as I'm now wondering why he didn't stop Lee Harvey Oswald for the 50th anniversary as well as saving Gallifrey.

Hate Bruce Forsythe even more for his spoiler in strictly, he said all the Doctors would be in it, so the surprise was gone.

That was rather good, wasn't it.  John Hurt did a remarkably good job, as a somewhat curmudgeonly Doctor.  I liked the comment "Nice scarf", and of course Tom Baker's sort of cameo.

There are too many things which I've probably forgotten about.  I need to watch it again. :)

I wonder what odds and sods we haven't immediately noticed, and which may come back and bite us in later episodes.  It didn't really encroach upon the whole current storyline with Clara and the Doctor's timeline, which I guess was sensible for this special, but Clara still worked pretty well in this episode.
Actually, it is rocket science.
