That one wasn't too bad, I thought.

Haven't seen this week's yet, and only saw last week's episode yesterday, so forgive me but...

It's like it deliberately failed the Bechdel test

Yes, I see what you mean. That scene where Clara and Maisie were chatting about boys was weird, in fairly cringey way. And it stuck out like a sore thumb that none of the Scientists were girls.

Better story than most so far this series though.

Only things I didn't like were the lack of motivation for the monsters, and the 'Docus e machina' finish.

Now, sidekicks and skirt length. I am a great believer in picking people (all genders) for their ability and rightness for a role, rather than how eye-candyish they are.

The miniaos voted this last episode the best so far, and I can't disagree.

I liked it, although the 2/3/4 dimensions thing bothered me.  We live in three visible dimensions with a fourth of time, right?  The doctor is a frikkin' time lord so I reckon he ought to call our universe a four dimensional one.  Which would make the flickery zombies three dimensional beings, right?

Oh and what Steph said about skirt lengths and stuff   ::-)

He's dumbing down for the humans. He'd probably say there were considerably more than four dimensions in our universe.  ;)

I watched it because I'm a big fan of Frank Skinner and he's been desperate to appear in Dr Who, as anything, for years.

I was pleasantly surprised with how much I liked him as the Cheeky technician character,Perkins.  Will he become a recurrent character I wonder.

There would be a slight issue of how similar he and Capaldi look..although maybe there's some mileage in that, "Here Perkins put my clothes on and speak to the Alien Blob thing".

It's still for kids though (although what time did it go out?  I taped it but I'm sure it was pretty late for what was always a Saturday, 6pm, show).

Some people say I'm self-obsessed but that's enough about them.

Missed it. Would I be forgiven if I quite liked the short skirts (had I seen them)?

I missed the short skirts - too distracted by the cleavage on display.

Tonight's episode was the best in recent years imho. Michelle Gomez was superb as the Mistress/Master. The one-liners kept coming thick and fast, I'm going to have to watch it again to remember them all. The Cybermen reveal was crafty, even though we knew that it was coming. Even the "throw the keys in the volcano" scene was not a copout.

"You have iPads?"

"We have Steve Jobs."

Class.

I thought it was all a bit *yawn* tbh, saved only by some splendid acting and a couple of witty one-liners.

Maybe I'm getting bored of the traditional end of season dalek/cybermen/fate of the universe cliffhanger spectacular.

I liked the Missy reveal, but what worked best for me in that episode (apart from the Steve Jobs and the "Don't burn me!") was Capaldi. There was actually continuity between his lines for the first time, and he did rather well.

Watching the Dr Who "Extra"

Discussing the development of the Cyberman, and mentioned the "iconic tear in the corner of the eye"

Then look at the 3W symbol, and they could not have made it clearer if they had tried!

The last two episodes really showed that Peter is a good man for the job. Sadly we have had a bad season regarding story lines, though it did pick up over the last two episodes.

The reveal and the clue in the 3W logo would have been far more effective if the cocks hadn't put a spoiler in the teaser at the end of last week's episode.

I too am heartily bored of the end-of-series end-of-the-universe spectacular grand finale. There was some very good stuff in this episode though, not least Michelle Gomez.

Classic two-parter failing - build it up fantastically well and then fail to deliver.

I knew no good would come of messing with the Cybermen mythology. Oh well.

Thought it was pretty good - possibly did slightly lose the tension of the 'impending doom', but still not bad.  Enjoyed Chris Addison & Michelle G.  Still waiting for some more episode gems from Steven M, like his Empty child, girl in fireplace, or Blink, but PC has been great IMO.

Next stop Nick Frost as Santa...

It's been brought to my attention that Dark Season is on Youtube.

For those who aren't familiar, its a thiny veiled Doctor Who story written by Russell T Davis as a kids' show in the early 90s.  With the Doctor character as a slightly odd 13 year old girl called Kim Marcie.  Contains vintage computers, cool shades, day-glow socks, skateboards, yo-yos, yoghurt, Servalan and a young Kate Winslet.

A second series was never made, the funding going to Maid Marian And Her Merry Men instead.
