I suppose the BBC are rewriting history because they had no hand in the 70s feature films...

We kinda hoped it would be Bill Nighy, but apparently it's someone much younger.  :-\
It's a bit weird, but actually quite wonderful.

I know who it is now, as its just been announced on TV after too much preamble, but I don't know who it is as I have never heard of him.

Oh, I don't know who he is and I certainly don't want to go travelling in the TARDIS with him.  :(

Oh well, we always hate the new Doctor until we get used to him and then we like him and then we hate the next one.

I wonder what Captain Jack will think of him?

I've never seen him before either.  The last two Dr's have been excellent, so he has a lot to live up to.  Lets see how he does.  I wasn't that keen on Catherine Tate as a companion either, but she grew on me, and I was ultimately sad to see her go.  This guy doesn't really look like I expect the Dr to look like, but maybe it'll work out.
Actually, it is rocket science.

Mmmmm intersting choice. I'm looking forward to seeing how they play it.

I'm wondering if they will ever have a female doctor? Could it work?

Yebbut Richard Hammond looks like David Tennant, just without the acting ability.

I think it will be very different, much more dynamic and youthful. Can't wait.

You know you're getting old, when Dr Who is (considerably) younger than you.

David Tennant will be difficult to top as the Doctor though.

This is not intended in a bad way at all, but... I couldn't help thinking of John Hurt's portrayal of the Elephant Man when I saw him.

Matt Smith eh? He was excellent on R4's Go For It, but I thought his career had belly flopped when he got the job presenting ITV's footy. This HAS to be a step forwards.

Female Doctors?
It's bound to happen. Over the last few years LOTS of names have been bandied around the Big British Castle (French, Lumley, Izzard). I think they'll do it as soon as the right actress is available for a reasonable fee. i think their budget is still constrained.

Imagine if they brought back Ace to be his assistant...  ;D

Fortunately, it's not that Matt Smith - it's the one who was in Party Animals and Ruby In The Smoke and is actually a pretty decent actor. Well, he was very good in Ruby In The Smoke (alongside Billie Piper, funnily enough) - I didn't see Party Animals.

I can't help feeling he's too young for the role but in fact he's only a couple of years younger than Peter Davidson was when he took the role so I shall reserve judgment until I've seen him in action.

I was rather hoping the rumours were true that it was going to be Paterson Joseph - he would have been excellent. But I'll give Matt Smith a chance.
