Don't mean to be a party pooper, but I thought it was awful. First the mystical nonsense when they brought the Master back to life, which seemed to be more suited to Harry Potter, then the flying around and electricity bolts fired from the hands, which would be fine in X-Men but just looks wrong in Doctor Who.

And worst of all, they forget one key element, namely a flipping story. It seemed to be all just setting the scene for the next instalment, and it felt really long and dragged out. Frankly, the whole episode could have been condensed into ten minutes without losing anything.

And I wish they would stop trying to outdo themselves by constantly upping the stakes. First the Daleks came back and tried to destroy the human race, then the Daleks and Cybermen almost destroyed the universe, and now OMG! THEY'RE GOING TO END TIME ITSELF!

Oh well, I suppose it is a children's programme.

Bet you long for the return of William Hartnell and cardboard sets.  ;)

C'mon, Timothy Dalton's in it ferchrissake. The Time Lords are coming back - what's not to like.  ;D

Who needs a plot anyway? My daughter (age 24) would like it if David Tennant just stood there and did nothing for an hour.  ::-)

Look, I love the current incarnation of Doctor Who - it's miles better than it ever used to be in so many ways. There have been some fantastic stories in the Tennant era. Just a few weeks ago, the Waters of Mars story was great - really clever and exciting. It had a decent story. It wasn't intellectually demanding but it was Proper Entertainment. This latest one is just not up to standard. It's not even all that entertaining.

The problem with turning the whole human race into John Simm is that the only way to resolve it is with some preposterous Deus Ex Machina type device. And I mean preposterous even within the context of Doctor Who. That's just not how the Doctor solves problems. He does it with his ingenuity and wit. Last time the Master appeared was bad enough, when the Doctor turned back the clock so none of it ever happened. I dread to think what's going to happen in the denouement of this one.

That said, I do think it's brilliant that Timothy Dalton's in it. And I won't be able to help myself - I'll be watching the next one to see what happens.

But I'm still disappointed.

I'll need to watch it again to work out what was going on as my bloody family talked all the way through it AGAIN.

We had a "talking banned" hour, and amazingly is (mostly) worked.

Agreed that turning the entire planet into the master is daft. Some of the best episodes have been the less grandiose ones (Blink springs immediately to mind. Miss TC (18) still looks over her shoulder when passing a graveyard).

Still loved it though - and the TIMELORDS are coming back.

+1 x infinity    :P

None of it was exciting OR scary, because it all felt so pre-ordained. It was like those rambling back-story bits in Lord of the Rings, except you couldn't save time by skim-reading.

I wish I hadn't watched it, and could just tune in for the final 10 minutes of Part II just to see the new (and hopefully better) era ushered in.

I have met Mr Dalton, and found him a charming man. He has one of those voices (like Christopher Lee) that just ooze depth, character, class, stuff. However, until the close-ups of his mouth I never realised how much shpittle he shprays when he talksh.....

Oh, and a REALLY silly story.

It was a very melodramatic bit at the end, when he was visiting everyone.  It seemed a little over the top, although I liked the bar bit.
Actually, it is rocket science.

Good grief. That ending was long enough to fit at the end of a lord of the rings trilogy!

And what is all this about dying. All previous regenerations have been relatively trivial same-man-different-body type things. Not an ending.

I have a son who has ginger hair and he asked why The New Doctor had said that.

It sounded to me like he was disappointed at not being ginger.

Calm down folks...

The Doctor: (Tennant) [still recently regenerated] Am I... Ginger?
Rose: No, you're just sort of... brown.
The Doctor: Aww, I wanted to be ginger. I've never been ginger. And you, Rose Tyler, fat lot of good you were. You gave up on me. Ooh, that was rude. Is that the kind of man I am now? Am I rude? Rude and not ginger?

Ah. You see, being ginger myself, I took his comment to be negative. Can't think why.

A bit silly in places, but clever in others such as the 4 drum beats = a Time Lord's heart beat and the fact that it was Bernard Cribbins that ended up killing regenerating him.

Apart from the TV licence detectors and one or two other things, the BBC ain't always bad.
