where's good

Brown Clee Hill ( highest in Shrops) , just to the side of the barrier, blocking the hill to motor vehicles ( and subsequently 99.9% of Joe Pleblic ) is a open foot traffic gate and them several hundred metres of tarmac at c20%

Just north of the summit and south of the masts are some flattish dry ground with ace views over the Wrekin, Shropshire Plain and the Long Mynd or Tittestone clee if you go south. Nice and quiet, no air traffic circling lie in the Peaks. Some sheep about and some delapidated mining works. Nice ambience though

Top place for an over nighter on clear eve, chances of being disturbed very low, chances of seeing some early morning runners, or locals out for evening stroll....hassle free, I rate it.

Legality...erm....next question

Old Oswestry Hill Fort

Good views, pre historic but covered in dog shit ( must be Francophiles) , too close to encircling and ever encroaching housing estates, festooned with dog walkers.

The bloody locals had the temerity to host an outdoor popular music concert the night I was sequestered there....

not recommended

Mam Tor -ancient hillfort in the Peaks, great views /panorama of Edale, the corrugations of the shivering mountain providing geological interest, a tad exposed and windy...less so ensconced next to the bronze age barrow near the ramparts, but is that the wind on the tent or a barrow wight ? Recommended for the experience.

Beacon Hill, South Downs Way, ancient hill fort once excavated by Sir Leonard Woolley ( him of Ur of the Chaldees fame ) great views, flat summit, ramparts and hut circles ( supposedly) recommended.

Grimspound, Dartmoor. ancient settlement with hut circles...spend a night where folk used to live, very atmospheric, recommended.

Best wild camp in Britain is next to the lighthouse at Ardnamurchan point. After the visitor centre closes for the night there is only you and the birds (feathered variety). To sit by your tent and watch the sunset over the Hebrides is awe-inspiring.
Most people tip-toe through life hoping the make it safely to death.

Dunwich Beach:  Better than BloodyTrains or the overpriced local campsite after the Dynamo.  Toilet block stays open all night.  Beware of the earwigs!

Sandwood Bay in NW Scotland is lovely.   You have to take your own water in & it's down a couple of miles of very rough track.

Not fast & rarely furious
