That question isn't dealt with in the rules. The 'day before' might conceivably be problematic. The primary rule should be 'goodwill' on all sides.

The 'day before' could be interesting for the organiser if DIY rider gives the organiser a few updates on the most recent situation of the roads (roadworks etc.). If you do it as such you could even be rated as an 'event volunteer' and get the ride registered as if you participated on the day itself.
With a bit of good communication a lot is possible.

Suggestion for admin - could be we have a sub-board for DIY/perms that riders would like some company on?

Suggestion is that the topic headings in that board would be "DATE - START LOCATION - DISTANCE - Brief description".  For example "8/8/09 - Redhill, Surrey - 400km - DIY to Wiltshire"

I'd personally find this facility very helpful.

I'm hopefully looking at doing the Cheddar Gorge 300 sometime in August (roughly when it would normally run as a calendar event). Already got the perm card (although I'll need to let NikW know the exact date before I start).

Can't do the weekend of 15th, any earlier is too close to LEL, so it's either 22nd or 29th.

Not sure of the logistics, could do with doing it in such a way that I don't need to spend a night away so a really early start is a possibility.
