where to get a tandem?
« on: 10 June, 2014, 11:16:51 am »
Mrs V wants to try out a tandem

She is approx 5'10 and has a 54cm Galaxy
I am 6'2" and have various bikes around 58cm

Anyone got one they'd like to rehome?

Alternatively, where can you buy tandems?

We have a Dawes 2Across doing nothing right now...

We're in SW London.
Getting there...

If you can make it to the Test Valley pootle, you can try any of ours.

JD Tandems in Gargrave in Yorkshire have a good choice and are very helpful.  :)

I have a Thorn Adventure that is not doing a lot at the moment, comes with a roof carrier of the power strut variety.  I am in the midlands.

Then-MrsLWaB and I enjoyed route checking a 200 on that Thorn quite a while ago. Tandems are a lot of fun!
Wheel meet again, don't know where, don't know when...

Have a folding Bike Friday Tandem Tuesday going spare. Fits in the back of a medium to large estate or hatch.

There is one here. Might require more than just pumping up the tyres.

If Butterfly and Clarion are bringing All The Tandems, then I think that brings the Pootle tandem total up to 5 - might be a good opportunity to try out a few different types and narrow down what you're looking for a bit before you start buying.

You'd be very welcome to join us: camping in the Test Valley near Winchester, £10 per person per night, 27th-29th June. Main mission is to get my visually impaired godmum on a tandem for the first time, so we'll be taking things at a beginner's pace.

Vorsprung, sorry to jump into your thread, but if anyone has one in the North that they might lend me, for a short while, I think i have persuaded Mrs T to try one.

Size wise, I am 6' and normally ride 56cm, Mrs T is only a couple of inches shorter and tends towards 52/3cm frames (though smaller may be better for her)

Unfortunately me and Mrs. V will be otherwise engaged with helping on the Mille Cymru

I think that one's his sister's (and in Hampshire). He has others more local :)

Even a tandem trike, but that's not his.
