...so I've just bought some mud tyres.  Anybody else going?

Well, I'm glad I got the mud tyres! It wasn't as wet as was threatened, but the trails always get badly cut up by the sheer number of people riding round the same course.  We came a respectable enough 37th out of some 90 or so entrants in the men's relay team competition.  There is video over on <a href="http://www.youtube.com/v/PJwuxRM4QyI&rel=1" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/v/PJwuxRM4QyI&rel=1</a>. 

I'd definitely recommend the twentyfour12 over Mountain Mayhem.  There aren't so many freebies, but the course is significantly more interesting.  The only thing that made Mayhem interesting for me was the volumes of mud that clung to my bike.

I thought about it, but have decided I'm doing the Mersey Roads next year with more TT experience under my belt than I currently have.  There was more beer on this ride, and significantly less pain (for most of us).
