...it's probably just as well I didn't.

I realised a little while later that I had no shirts, socks or pants in my locker.
This has been rectified!

And I won't be commuting for the next nine days either, but that's because I'm on holiday!

I had a dentist appointment, and then promptly passed out due to lack of blood sugar, bouncing off several bits of counter and furniture.

So I've taken the day off. My face hurts.  :'(

Si, you steaming great berk.

I could have commuted. But then looked at the huge pile of dishes at home, knew they would be awaiting me when I got back and decided that no way would I cope with cycling home, doing that, cooking for 4 people and cleaning up the bathroom after builders have been.

LOL, got to agree with that

cleaning up the bathroom after builders have been.

I admire your bravery, hope you've got a NBC suit handy

The bathroom is fine.

It's the kitchen that is the issue.

Teenagers off school.

Hot damp weather produces blowflies.

Teenagers do not get concept of:
 - Taking dirty dishes (with food scraps) from bedroom to kitchen.
 - Not leaving open jars of food, open packets of ham, etc out on kitchen surfaces.

My patience is wearing thin. Very thin.

I feel your pain. Not so long ago Miss S had taken to hiding the apples from her lunch box in the bottom of her wardrobe, given away by the fermenting smell.

Before certain forumites come along to point it out I hasten to add I was definitely no better. Any how I think we've derailed this thread enough for now  :)

No commute in this morning on account of it being Junior#2's first day at the Big School.

I was left in no uncertain terms that I would *not* be up and out at 06:00, I would be staying back to see him off on his first day.

So I've packed the bike in the car, and will at least get a ride home, and then a ride back in tomorrow morning to collect the car.

My bike has developed a slow (but getting less slow all the time) visitation in the rear tyre and, having spent four and a half hours driving yesterday (and working fairly intensely in the bit between the two drives) I didn't have the energy to sort it last night.
The deciding factor was not MrsC hinting that I 'might' go to collect the obesity control cat food from the vet, oh no, not at all.

Listening to the radio before I left, I got the impression that there might have been a little excess water across the cyclepath

I had an interview after work last night and Monday night and then I woke up for no reason at all at 3am last night which is not helping my general exhaustion. Waking up to see the wind and rain didn't encourage me either, so I caught the train. It costs more, but takes almost the same amount of time.

I think you're allowed a few days off from commuting, given your general dedication.  Most of your miles should count twice, on account of the extra seat.

3 days in a row without cycling.

Lots of stress at work

Utterly unsympathetic people at home keeping me awake until 1am every night.

I'm exhausted and it is p!ssing down.

I took the bus. Again.

Again.  That's a hell of a commute you do, and I'd only be able to manage it if my bike and my health were at their peak.  No shame in making a sensible decision.

Pity that the unsympathetic external factors don't help.  Nothing you can do about the weather, but other people can help in this situation.  Hope that improves.

Indeed. Other people don't help. I think our entire house smelling of the tuna that the big lad had for dinner was one of the reasons I was awake so long in the night . It's almost certainly the reason for my headache now :(.

I tried cycling in - having to pedal down a road when I normally hit 35+mph should have been a warning. When I got to the main junction on the road, the police were turning motorists back and around a 20km detour to get to the base.

"Excuse me, if the road totally shut, or could I get through by bike?"
"Do you have a snorkel with you? Is it life or death?"
"I'll go back home then and get the car"

I looked at the weather forecast.  50 mph gusts inland at home time and heavy rain.  Sod that for a game of soldiers - tin box time.

The train and bus are my friends :). I set out to the station this morning and had real problems opening the gate against the wind :-\. I am under-powered anyway at the moment but that amount of wind, even as a tail-wind is going to push me around more than I'm really wiling to deal with :(. Still, I'm getting through months of stockpiled podcasts on the Ipod .

I am staying at home with a stinking cold, a supply of tissues and powders... and a large box of chocolate biscuits  ;D
