Title: Carradice saddlebag support options that don't go on saddle rails

I like using my carradice barley saddlebag a lot. I'd like to move my saddle a little further forward but that would prevent me fixing my carradice bagman sport to the saddle rails.

Has anyone got any bright ideas for how I could use the saddlebag in a supported-from-below way (i.e. not SQR) while being able to freely move my saddle fore and aft? I like the bagman because it's also really handy for stowing sleeping bags and whatnot too.

Maybe some kind of seatpost-clamping arrangement coupled with the stabiliser struts SJS do https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/luggage/carradice-bagman-stabiliser-struts/ ...

Do an image search on ‘bicycle saddlebag support’ for most of the options. ‘Saddlebag uplift’ might cover many of the remainder. Uplifts don’t work for me and my big bum though.

https://theradavist.com/2016/09/ocean-air-cycles-erlen-saddle-bag-support/ is neat but expensive and not QR.

http://pardo.net/bike/pic/fail-035/000.html shows several old-school options that fit to the seatstays.

a) Change the seatpost to one with less layback, and carry on using the bagman support
b) Carradice's version (https://www.carradice.co.uk/products/saddle-fixing-systems/carradice-classic-saddlebag-rack) of the classic Karrimor uplift (requires a saddle with Brooks-style bag loops)

I've been using a Classic rack, with a barley (Super C Audax) for a few years. Needs Brooks saddle or compatible saddlebag loops though...  Tabs into saddlebag loops & one strap.  Super convenient to swap between bikes, or just get on and off.  I tie bits of inner tube (to rack) where the rack contacts/rests on the saddle rails.  A bit heavier than my other option, the Ortlieb large roll-end bag, but currently using the classic rack/carradice all the time.

There's a Nitto support which fits to the seatpost and seat stays, you may have too much seatpost above the frame for that to work, though I see it also comes with longer stays for mudguard mount fitting.

Or there's plenty of other seatpost racks that would do, I have a Topeak one, though I use it on my one bike without a Carradice.

Trouble is that the bagman weight is a bit over 300g, my lightest standard rack is bit over 700 although you could spend a fortune on a Ti version, the Topeak seatpost ones are still 600g+ , maybe the "road" version is a bit lighter as it supports lighter topeak rack bag models. Hard to find a solution that doesn't double the weight? I have a shed full of bags that seemed perfect but which each exhibit some fatal flaw, only exceeded by my collection of saddles that reviews said "99% of users would purchase again" but which don't work for me (I'm special it seems)

I think if that doesn't work then the saddle is too forward with regards to riding position.

Thanks for the ideas everyone.

I like the look of the nitto rack but I'd hope the rack element would be wide enough to adequately support the bag. I'd also need to get some bag loops for the saddle but that's no huge deal.

Or the top tube is longer than ideal (for the individual rider)?

I had a similar problem and simply filed the slots to accommodate the curve of the rails.
